Have we seen the last American election?

Given the fascist nature of the new regime, it's possible. A president can declare martial law and an election could be put off "indefinitely" due to "emergency conditions."

Who's to stop it? Trump and the GOP are capable of anything. And the Democrats hold no power at all.

They had a year with plenty of free government money to plan a transition, doesn't seem the GOP did anything except spend the funding.

By the end of February 2017 we should have a good idea the calamities we face.

But not very likely AT ALL.

Of course there is always the 2nd amendment solution.

No such factor exists today. A "second amendment solution" is a fantasy.

1. While Republicans are behind Trump for the moment, I don't think they like him much. The corporate republicans, for example, are upset at some of his anti free-trade rhetoric.

2. Trump is already showing himself as a cheap grifter with these deals for this relatives - while many Republicans won't mind that, those in the middle won't be happy - at least hide your grift.

3. While Democrats are hardly paragons of political courage, they don't have to do much in this situation but offer the alternative; it was a close race, and Clinton clearly won the popular vote.

4. I also have some questions about how much Trump is actually going to want to govern or if he just wants to be in charge and have his ego stroked. If he ends up being a president of low ambition - well - given what he's likely to do if he starts governing, I'd just as soon he was unmotivated.

A national tragedy could through all this calculus out of whack. That's the biggest single threat I would say.

but let me say this.

When one party runs all three branches of government, they control all the levers of power.

So here's my question. What makes you think that Trump and the GOP will play by any rules, or any of that "Constitutional stuff?" They can do anything they want to do. Including the cancellation of any and all elections to come.

Perhaps you believe that the United States has some magical immunity to fascists and what they will do to gain and keep power. Donald Trump and the Republican Party don't give a rat's ass what you, or any of us believe. And if you don't think they could and would cancel future elections, for whatever made up reasons they can come up with, you are very naive.
