If we didn't elect our own despot I might have got more excited about overseas ones.

Every illusion I held about American exceptionalism has been shattered by the election of Donald Trump. A not insignificant number of our fellow Americans threw every American value such as due process, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, habeas corpus, and pluralism under the bus because some demagogue told him he can fix their problems.


Doesn't sound very exceptional to me.
