The disruptive Trump supporter on the Delta flight has just been banned from Delta.

CEO Ed Bastian shared the memo below with all Delta employees today.

Internal Memo

Date: November 28, 2016

To: Delta Colleagues Worldwide

From: Ed Bastian

Subject: Disruptive Passenger on DL248

Thank you for the amazing job you did running our operation and taking care of our customers during the busy Thanksgiving holiday. At Delta, we strive to deliver a safe and reliable product while providing a customer experience that is second to none. You come to work every day prepared to serve our customers and to take care of each other while also dealing with the unexpected.

As you may have heard by now, last week a video began circulating around the internet showing a disruptive passenger on board a Delta flight. This individual displayed behavior that was loud, rude and disrespectful to his fellow customers. After questioning the customer, our team members made the best decision they could given the information they had and allowed him to remain on the flight. However, if our colleagues had witnessed firsthand what was shown in the video, there is no question they would have removed him from the aircraft. He will never again be allowed on a Delta plane.

Part of being a reliable travel partner and a servant leader is acknowledging our mistakes so we can learn from them and respond more effectively in the future. Delta has apologized to the customers onboard that flight. We are also refunding those customers the cost of their tickets.

I also want to make sure all of you know we have your backs. The heightened tension in our society means that now more than ever we must require civility on our planes and in our facilities. We must stay true to Delta’s core values and treat one another with dignity and respect. We also must remain committed more than ever to the safety of our customers and our crew members. We will not tolerate anything less.

Again, thank you for all you do.

Ed

I felt so bad for the people on the aircraft being subjected to that idiot's rant. It is impossible to tell these days whether someone is merely ranting, or is going to pull out a weapon and start killing people. It must've been horrible to have been sitting there.

A clear message needs to be sent that NO airline will tolerate this type of behavior.

The concept of "servant leadership" is from Protestant Christian Bible talk. I think Delta's CEO must have been almighty upset at events to let the vocabulary from one part of his life leak over into the other.

He did the right thing for the right reasons, however he chose to express himself.

It's fortunate no one really confronted the asshole, who appeared to be what is referred to in my neighborhood as a "bad load". Clearly intended to intimidate.

Hate crimes have at their core an intent to intimidate (or worse) an "other". In that man's mind, anyone not on board with Trump is an "other" and hates their guts.

That is the very definition of a hate crime.

From the sound of his accent, he probably was from the area around Atlanta and that was the first leg of his trip. I'd like to see him trying to fly back from Allentown to Atlanta. Hopefully it'll be on a puddle jumper with five or six stops along the way!

To me, Delta has always been one of the most stand-up and professional airline. Good for them.

And they refunded the fare to all the other passengers on that flight, too!

Guy sitting in 1st class next to be got pissed because flight departure was delayed because of a mechanical problem and took it out on the stew, demanding her name and ID so he could write a spite letter to Delta. He got it, wrote something up then, because the delay was going to be a while, got off the plane to wait in the terminal.

I hated this guy. Just hated him.

I pulled out my laptop and wrote another letter to Delta giving the time, location, flight number, the stew's name, etc. - and then telling them if they get a letter from this guy to know he is a jerk and their crew did a great job trying to explain what was out of their control.

During the flight in a quiet moment I showed my letter to stew. She thanked me and told the rest of the crew. You wouldn't believe all the little things they put into a goodie-bag for me when we landed!!! They saw I liked a particular scotch and Whoo-Hoo!

Pays to be nice.

So I'm going to Colorado. I was on a Southwest flight from Orange County. So this woman sitting in front of me just happened to be sitting in the emergency exit row, and was trying to save the seat for someone (not sure if husband / brother) happened to have a broken leg. Now I've been there. But this is the exit row. When the flight attendant told her the FAA policy, she went ballistic. They finally removed her from the exit row and she got even more belligerent to the point where they were going to kick her off the flight completely. So I grab the exit row and I started talking to the flight attendant. And we both agreed that the woman was the one who was completely at fault. I told them they did the right thing, and I definitely scored by getting the exit row the whole flight, I also got some free beer out of it. Best flight ever, for me anyway!

Ever walk into a store with a question or a minor complaint and the service person says, "Well, I have to ask corporate?" arrrgghh..

Nevertheless, kudi (plural of kudo) to Delta. I fly them 'often' going to Asia-- Korea, Japan and China..as there are good connections, usually through DTW or MSP-- at least on the way out.. return.. not so great....
....but few are unless I fly Air Canada...which I try to avoid as I must go through Toronto, which is living hell..nobody know what is going on-- the employees or the travelers.... especially if my flight to ROC is cancelled and I have to go through the entire deal the next day.. Has anyone ever been at CYYZ at 6 am? You do NOT EVER want to be there then.. ever....

Happy travels...

that does not excuse the lack of action on the part of the flight crew on board. They should have had the guy escorted off the plane. How many times has a Captain had an innocent muslim (or muslim looking person) kicked off a plane solely based upon the person's look. But a white male can stand in the aisle and mouth off and no action is taken against him? I am a white person but even I acknowledge that, far too often, people with white skin tone are far too often given a pass for bad behaviour.
