NYTimes: Donald Trumps Lies About the Popular Vote

One big fear in the weeks leading up to the presidential election was that Donald Trump would try to delegitimize the results by claiming rampant voter fraud — a bogus specter he had raised throughout the campaign, particularly as his polling numbers got worse.

In that scenario, of course, Mr. Trump was the loser. No one imagined he would say the election was rigged if he won. And yet here we are.

On Sunday, President-elect Trump unleashed a barrage of tweets complaining about calls for recounts or vote audits in several closely contested states, and culminating in this message: “In addition to winning the Electoral College in a landslide, I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally.”

[IMG][/IMG]

This is a lie, part of Mr. Trump’s pattern, stretching back many years, of disregard for indisputable facts. There is no evidence of illegal voting on even a small scale anywhere in the country, let alone a systematic conspiracy involving “millions.” But this is the message that gets hammered relentlessly by right-wing propaganda sites like InfoWars, which is run by a conspiracy theorist who claims the Sandy Hook school massacre was a hoax — and whose absurdities Mr. Trump has often shouted through his megaphone, which will shortly bear the presidential seal. Mr. Trump added more fuel to the fire with the false claim of “serious voter fraud” in California, Virginia and New Hampshire — all states that went for Hillary Clinton.

are offering the response in the form of an editorial opinion. That is all fine and good, but that he lied should be reported as news, not just as part of an editorial

It makes me happy that it is eating him up inside knowing the majority of Americans don't want him as President.

It please me to no end to think of Trump feeling that crushing blow to his ego.

To know he lies in bed, eyes wide open, cursing everyone who didn't vote for him.

He won the highest office in the land but that isn't enough for him.

No, he needs to feel loved and losing the popular vote means (to him) that he isn't the best loved.

Psst..Donald...your daddy didn't love you best either.

And they even let him pick cabinet members from the Bannon/Mercer pre-approved list.

I'm sure his minders are looking forward to his victory tour rallies so they can get about the business of dismantling government.

such commentary would have had some value had it been practiced widely 10 months ago.

we've gone well beyond that point now. we've reached a point where truth or falsehood is merely another editorialized attribute appended to any given statement, holding about as much weight as a review of punctuation or grammar. seriously, they might as well be criticizing his diction.

the important message here, one that Trump is conveying to his supporters quite eloquently, is that millions of people voted illegally for his "criminal" opponent, and even if they weren't illegal then they should be illegal going forward. his intent, clearly communicated, is to disenfranchise the Democratic voting base. that is the real story here, and none dare report it.

while the national media circle jerk themselves over their journalistic purity, Trump just went full Hitler and it's not getting covered.

what you hear when he speaks is not what his target audience hears
you are not them
congratulations

the significance of what he's saying goes well beyond the words. he's constantly using dog whistles and codes that have volumes of meaning to his followers. if you listen to him like you'd listen to NPR, he sounds chunky and stupid and thoroughly repulsive. that's not what his followers are hearing.
