10000 animals were left behind at the Ripley's Aquarium. The fire is almost on it but it's raining.

Smoke started in Wytheville VA (just south of Blacksburg) and ended in Chattanooga. There was a break around Knoxville but other than that it was like a campfire. There was another fire due west of Richmond VA that filled much of the Shenandoah valley with smoke.
Health advisories from Va to TN on the news and the electronic interstate signs.
It was so dry in NW Georgia that I carried a bottle of water with me when I went outside to smoke.

(14,926 posts)Authorities are expressing concern for the wild animals of the Smoky Mountains and other outdoor animals due to poor air quality. They said it was 118 degrees F. in downtown Gatlinburg last night due to the heat of the fire. There's been some rain but it hasn't helped much and a lot of it evaporates before hitting the ground due to the intense heat.
