Here are Ryans plans:
Reduce regulations: (interpretation) Let banks, Wall Street and big business do anything they want to do, to anyone they want to do it to.
"Address" Obamacare: (interpretation) Youre on your own. If you cant afford to buy whatever health insurance companies want to charge you, die.
Change the tax code: (interpretation) Minimum taxes for the wealthy and business. Tax the hell out of the middle class and the poor.
Secure the borders: (interpretation) Screw those brown people who speak gobbedly gook and vote for Democrats once they become citizens.

(15,035 posts)Medicare is on his list and he should get around to it by late January or early February.
And let's not forget privatizing Social Security. I can't wait to see the name they come up with for that plan. "Retire into worry-free wealth." (interpretation) Die quickly and in poverty.

(14,564 posts)the focus is on trump, and while he is going to do crazy ass shit, congress is where the focus SHOULD BE, because they are going to do all the crazy ass shit they have wanted to do the last three decades and it will be really fucking hard to unwind it once they do.

(15,035 posts)The only thing we have going for us is the filibuster by the Senate Democrats. But my guess is that the Republicans will change the Senate rules to wipe out the filibuster and pass everything by a simple majority.
The thing that's always stopped either party from doing this is the fear that they might be in the minority the next time around. For some reason, I doubt if the Republicans are worried about this happening anytime in the foreseeable future. I wonder why?

(24,412 posts)I don't know about how badly people might react to ACA repeal but Trump didn't run on repealing Medicare (though Dems have been warning people about Paul Ryan's designs on it) and if Republicans cram a Medicare repeal/voucher program down people's throats, I'm not certain that there won't be a major backlash against them in 2018 and 2020. I don't think that they've carefully considering the ramifications of ACA repeal on the insurance industry either, but the outcome may not be what they expect. McConnell may keep the filibuster alive so that they can continue playing Kubuki Theater with their base and blaming Democrats for obstructing (LOL) their repeal of ACA and Medicare so that they can pick up more Senate seats in 2018 (though people may SUPPORT Democrats for being obstructionist on those things too, so......).

(15,035 posts)My guess is that, between gerrymandered districts (which won't change after the 2020 census) and voter suppression laws, they believe they can hold onto power forever. Or at least for the next few decades.
Right now, the GOP's attitude toward anything and everything the "average American" wants is this: "Fuck off. We're in charge."
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,412 posts)but they've never seriously been in a position where they have the will and the power to make some of their horrible nightmares like "phasing out" Medicare a reality. The last time they seriously tried something of this magnitude was in 2005 with Social Security and that ended badly for them. I guess we'll have to see if this happens and how people react to it (or don't).

(14,564 posts)that they pull it.
They have a VERY favorable draw for the senate in two years, since they cleared this one, they should have it for four years at least.
IMO, they pull the filibuster the House will run through some REALLY extreme shit and they get it passed by the simple majority.
This is their shot to get it ALL.
If Ginburg, Kennedy and Breyer try to ride it out, I can absolutely somehow see these assholes finding a way to impeach them or pull some legislation of some kind that would allow them or Trump to force them to retire.
