In the next 4 years there will be a lot of battles for the majority of us who did not vote for trump to fight.
mine is going to be around civil rights and especially voting rights. this is not to say other issues are not important, but there will be a distracting number of issues. Trump will be incredibly corrupt, his own wealth and those of his family will grow immensely, who even knows what the foreign policy implications are. But what i will be focus on and find meaningful ways to engage in are voting rights and other civil rights issues, all of which will be severely assaulted if Jeff Sessions is confirmed as AG.
if you think economic issues or climate change are paramount, you should get involved with organizations that work on these issues.
i suggest that each of you pick an issue to engage with, so you are not left dizzy with the craziness of it all. And that we all use our time productively instead of dancing from one issue to another.

I'm locked in with #NoDAPL...which also deals with racism, sexicm, civil rights, economy, and ecology. We're all in this together.

(53,866 posts)the problem is so many democrats live in blue states, whereas all these suppression methods occur in red/purple states. goddamn.

(522 posts)Actually 4: SS/Medicare preservation, climate change, voter suppression, and bigotry. I hope the fight over SS/Medicare will take place soon so we can get that one over. For climate change I hope some letter writing/phone calling to State and US congresscritters and maybe a donation(s) to Sierra Club (I hear they are lawyering up for that fight), and finally wearing my safety pin to bring awareness of the bigotry issues that have grown so much worse over the last year and a half. I am not sure what I can do yet about voter suppression. I wish I were more mobile (I don't drive anymore) so I could travel to areas that need folks to help potential voters get the documents they need for IDs and give rides to motor vehicle departments to get the appropriate ID. Any suggestions would be welcome.

(115,693 posts)you'll just get depressed and be tempted to give up. But if you choose a particular cause or issue or organization to get involved with, you can do something, even if it's not such a big thing by itself. If everybody gets involved in some small way, the cumulative effect will be significant.
At the same time, though, we need to do some things that clear our heads and cheer us up. Do some art, some music, foster puppies or kittens, or just go for a walk in the woods. The important thing is to not go nuts. That might be hard..
