Trump says Ohio campus attacker 'should not have been in' US

"Donald Trump has said a Somali refugee student who went on a rampage at an Ohio campus on Monday "should not have been in our country".

The President-elect added that "ISIS is taking credit for the terrible stabbing attack", which left 11 people injured.

An IS-affiliated news agency claimed business student Abdul Razak Ali Artan as a "soldier".

The 18-year-old's mother says he acted normally on the day of the rampage at Ohio State University in Columbus. "

Nobody should be in our country but you and me. And I'm not sure about you, lately.

And I'm not sure if that's sarcasm or not, because that's what the Trump immigration position boils down to.

It's a little like the "no true Scotsman" fallacy, which concludes the only true Scotsman are thee and me, and I'm not sure about thee. We always need a scapegoat. We start with the obvious candidates, people from countries where people have dark skin and wear funny hats. When that doesn't solve our problems, we work our way down the list, moving from Arabs to Africans to Cubans to Latvians to Russians to Japanese. Or whatever. Eventually, we end up looking at each other, spying on each other, using loyalty tests, etc. Moving to an authoritarian or totalitarian state goes one step at a time, although the steps may come surprisingly close together.

I just had a feeling of dread over what his statements after mass shootings might be. That I feel it is inevitable is disturbing enough. But to think that this fool will be sent out to comfort us is horrifying!

This election is proving to be a trigger point all over the spectrum. I find that very disturbing. Clearly this student had the potential to be triggered, and I'm not excusing his actions in the least. But how do we use this to find a way to prevent it from happening again? And, will his complaint (which may be complete bullshit, I don't know) that he felt unsafe praying on campus be listened to? Again, I don't know if this particular individual made that up, if it's going to turn out that he had other incidents, that he never prayed in public anyway - but if it does turn out that people were being hassled for doing so, will we care?

It's an ugly, worrisome incident. While it was obviously understandable that he was killed, I always wish these people could be arrested and then debriefed so future incidents can be prevented. I'm not saying that every Dylan Roof is going to give information or that everything is preventable, and I'm sure many of these people are incapable of articulating why they become violent. I just don't know what the answer is.

I have to admit, that and the incidents that we have started seeing validate their point of view in a sense. "The US is evil and hates us." "We are under threat from the US." Truly, what can be said to console someone when a man, who has plainly said they should be rounded up, deported, nuked, etc?

Aside from the fact that a woman president would have been anathema, now they also have a perfect propaganda tool. Kind of win win for them.
