Just had an interesting conversation in my office with someone.
Personally, I think Mitt Romney is being completely duped and will be put out to pasture by Trump in a few days. Trump met with him, Romney caved and basically publicly gave some support to Trump, so once he's thrown out with the dishwater, Romney will have no remaining relevance. Trump manipulated him into saying nice things about Trump. Romney won't be seen as credible should he attack Trump again beyond this occurrence.
I think this goes along with the Omarosa comment earlier in the campaign about how Trump will make his enemies bow down to him (and I'm paraphrasing, of course). Anyone else have the same feeling?

(58,785 posts)that he is not a shopping-cart Mormon but an all-in fundamentalist believer, and I think we should believe him. The Mormon church was created to specifically prepare earth for the establishment of God's kingdom. They believe they have now fulfilled all the tasks they were given to do that. They long ago purchased land for God's capital near Independence, Missouri, where they will gather to witness the Second Coming.
Mitt believes God gifted him, and others, with what was needed for them to answer the call to leadership in America when the time came. He keeps stepping up in case he is the one, and humbling himself before Trump will not faze him. It's all in service of his god, and whatever comes or does not will be the will of his god. I wouldn't bet a phony penny that he didn't chew his frog legs with forced serenity across from that tool of Satan.
Reportedly he and his wife have been seeing this as something of a trial for some time, but it's likely they also see Trump's election as an indication that their prophesy is coming to pass. Bless their hearts, as they say here in Dixie.

(90,674 posts)....was feeling the call of public service and wlling to be the sane man on the team to try to keep this from being an unmitigated disaster. But now I think Trump is going to destroy him completely if he keeps hanging around in any fashion.
It's past time for Mitt to take what's left of his balls and go home.

Why to believe that you'd have to believe the president elect is a vindictive and hateful person.

Romney is a businessman just like Trump. If Romney get "played" it's because he wants to be played.

(28,394 posts)I think the call-back was an indication that Romney is still in the running.
Of the four names being floated lately, Romney probably is the best choice for Sec. of State. I think if t-rump wanted Rudy, he would have said so by now. Petraeus is on probation and can't leave the country. I don't know much about Corker, but his international experience seems to be limited to his Senate committee work.
But who knows what goes on in the orange one's brain.

(15,805 posts)If Trump is nothing else, he's a petty, vengeful little man who carries a grudge ans never forgets a slight. He's taking that poor dolt, Romney, for a lovely stroll down the primrose path. After he's had his fun, Trump will gut him like a fsh!

(43,181 posts)Trump is a vindictive human being who thrives on humiliation. Just think of him calling Alicia Machado "fat" (which was patently absurd) and making her jump rope in front of a dozen leering photographers.
There's a chance he could hire Romney, but my gut says it's 25% at most.

And he, like most narcissists, has an extra level of hatred for those who call him out. He doesn't want to win people like that over, he wants to PUNISH them. Humiliate them if possible. That is what he wants to do with Romney.

(1,128 posts)If he hires Romney, we'll have a Secretary of State with intelligence however evil he might be. If he ditches Romney after all that, Romney will join a growing list of republicans who'll be out to get Cheeto

And as crazy as it sounds, I'm rooting for Willard. I would much rather have him in there than Rudy Giuliani or the criminal General Petraeus.
