Warren Challenges Brown To Accept Local Media Debate
After Sen. Scott Brown declined a debate invitation Tuesday from the Kennedy Institute, Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren is challenging Brown to a debate that her campaign says should fit his standards: a nonpartisan, local-media sponsored debate. Brown had requested that Vicki Kennedy Sen. Ted Kennedys widow promise not to endorse throughout the duration of the campaign. When Kennedy refused, Brown declined the invitation. Brown had also objected to MSNBC sponsoring the debate; Browns campaign manager told TPM that they preferred local media to out-of-state cable networks with a reputation for political advocacy.
In an email to supporters Wednesday morning, the Warren campaign is now challenging Brown to a debate hosted by a collection of local media outlets including Boston Globe, NECN, WCVB-TV, WGBH-TV, WHDH-TV, WBUR and WGBH radio in Boston as well as outlets in Western Massachusetts.
