"SNIP...............
At least for a moment, President-elect Donald Trump appeared to achieve this week what President Obama struggled to do for most of the past eight years: convince Americans that he can fix the economy.
Cheering crowds greeted Trump during his victory lap through the Rust Belt this week following the announcement that the nations new negotiator-in-chief had struck a deal with heating and air conditioner manufacturer Carrier to keep a factory in Indiana from moving to Mexico. The agreement affected roughly 1,000 jobs and provided Trump the opportunity to deliver on a powerful campaign promise even before taking office.
The plant is just a sliver compared with the nearly 16 million new jobs generated under Obama as he guided the country out of the worst economic crisis since the Depression. But Obamas success came in fits and starts, illustrated by graphs and pie charts, driven by the philosophy that strengthening the economy required comprehensive new policies.
Trumps hype of his first victory, on the other hand, suggests that he will embrace the bully pulpit to push an agenda grounded as much in emotion as economics, if not more.

(25,852 posts)for all the jobs that have come about in the past 8 years.
I also heard this morning (I think it was on Amy Goodman) that 300 of those jobs are administrative and would have stayed there anyway. And of course there is still no guarantee that the other 700 or so jobs will stay permanently in Indiana. And that about 700 jobs are being moved to Mexico anyway.
The devil truly is in the details.

(9,372 posts)... but what I would call them is lazy. They take Trump's word for too much of what he says. It took a year for anyone to challenge him and by then it was too late.

(9,350 posts)My biggest take away from this article was near the end when it was reported that Donald Trump claimed he did not remember making a pledge to save the plant and that he only remembered when he was shown a clip of him making the promise. That raises serious issues either way. Either he will claim he did not make promises when he fails to fulfill them, or he has a mental disorder that causes he to forget the things he said. Either way is bad.

(47,953 posts)They were just waiting for a Republican to start cheerleading again. Just like with W, just like with St. Ronnie.
The Media were absolutely not going to help Obama out, and indeed if the election had turned out with Clinton winning all you would be hearing is 1, how Pence and the republicans were doing something, and/or 2, how this was evil government intervention. The switch would be turned off.

Just greed for sales and ratings.
With very very few exceptions.
