(46,704 posts)Russia interfered with our election to remove the candidate that would have held his feet to the fire, and our country elects the weakest link. Now Trump breaks US precedent to open communication with the leader of Taiwan.
If I were China, I would be raising an eyebrow, wondering where the next four years of foreign policy in the US is going to affect my welfare.
We have a crisis in the making here.

(85,996 posts)...is now the subject of partisan disagreement with republicans sounding like they're willing to just let Trump roll the dice on this one.
You're right that Trump's a crisis waiting to happen.

(85,996 posts)...also, we have Reagan's 'Six Assurances,' affirmed by Reagan and Congress in '82, and followed by every president since.

For most human beings this experience (withe quick pushback and warnings) would indicate that a little bit of learning/homework before each of these calls is a good idea. Not Trump. Where's his ignorance and righteousness with the ignorance on his sleeve.

(85,996 posts)...Trump just came back with an 'I meant to do that' kind of response.
I do still wonder if he really wants to go ahead with antagonizing (essentially threatening) China, or if he'll take cover behind his new WH mentor who made calls this morning to try and clean the mess up for him.

This from a supposedly embattled and rudderless DNC.

To your point, I don't think that kind of incompetence can be contained. Something is going to get major f-d up.

This isn't one of his reality shows. He's a step away from control one of the most powerful forces in the world and he's already pushing all the buttons he can get his hands on. It's more than unnerving.
