White People Are A Little Too Damn Happy About Trevor Noah vs. Tomi Lahren

https://medium.com/@DavidDWrites/white-people-are-a-little-too-damn-happy-about-trevor-noah-vs-tomi-lahren-999c0158caf6#.99dieyiyp

From the article:

"But to white people, whose lives aren’t in danger in the way Trevor Noah’s is, this was an entertaining joust that reaffirmed whatever stances they have on a multitude of issues and made them feel good about the belief that we can just talk away hatred without doing anything to actually deter it. And once again, the onus is placed on the black person to defend himself. If liberal white people are so delighted by the “demolition,” then they should feel just as happy to speak up and quell Lahren and her followers before she’s able to drop propaganda on a national TV audience. And damn sure before she says anything to a black person. The fact Trevor Noah was able to face Lahren on his show wasn’t as much a celebration of his ability to cordially talk to her as it was a failure by the same white people so delighted in the debate to check her and her hatred before it became a national phenomenon."

And people are falling for it. Just saw she was on Charlemagne's show and had drinks with Noah. She's angling for her own tv show, and for some reason the media is giving her a higher profile to help.

3. I watched the video and she was obtuse, intentionally or otherwise, to what Noah was saying.

She was fallacious, tone-deaf, and not even trying to address the issues Noah brought up.

I get what the author is saying. Cheering a verbal WWF takedown ignores the substance of the questions. Questions that even liberals sometimes can't answer. ie "If not peaceful protest on the street, or kneeling and saying nothing on a football field are inappropriate, what is?"

So glossed ducked "what did the KKK do?" How many white people know that the KKK was originally a Christian civic group filled with "white boys who would be boys" after dark?

In order to challenge racism white people need to know these facts and rather than focus on her humiliation, focus on the substance of what Trevor Noah was trying to get to.

9. That's because, if they were honest, they'd say black people shouldn't protest

Lahren kept bringing up the money Colin Kaepernick made instead of addressing the issue. Typical tactic to avoid addressing the discrimination against black people.

If money, position, and power voided racism, then we would not have seen the vicious racist attacks on President Obama.

Lahren would call those attacks political and not racist, and either she's lying to herself or lying for her audience. Either way, she's a liar, but one makes her a liar that knows better and the other makes her typical of the white people who refuse to see racism.

I've asked the same question before on this board (How should black people protest then?) and never got a real answer. The person always going back to saying something that doesn't offend (white people).

I gave up.

She is getting rich off her vitriol. Deep down she may even know he is right but she sold her soul and is use to the fame and fortune so she won't allow herself to hear the logic of an opposing view.

I'm sick of the broad brushing of white people too. The bigotry dressed in editorials like what's in the OP is part of why we have Trump as President.

But as for the Lahren/Noah debate, it was pretty fun to watch. Lahren is an airhead but I don't sense the outright viscousness that I get from the likes of Coulter.

11. You may be a tad sensitive. DUers know that progressive whites are not the problem

It's the racist ones and those who tolerate them and vote for a racist like Trump while pretending that they voted for him for jobs are the problem.

Trump is a Pied Piper who knew what buttons to press to make racist whites feel he was going to stop their white privilege from being threaten ("Make America white . . . er, ah . . . "Make America great again&quot .

They correctly interpreted the dog whistle for what it really was and lined up like Pavlov's dog to vote for the Orange fuhrer.

But hell, even Stevie Wonder can see Trump is not and can not bring back manufacturing jobs. Nobody is that dumb so the ones who pretended to vote for Trump's job promises doth protest too much. And so do the ones defending them.

And that is not broadbrushing. We know progressive whites are allies.

I'm a "if the shoe fits" guy as much as anyone but it isn't clear who the OP is referring to.

I'm fine with anthem or other protests and cheered the takedown and posted it in the video forum.

It's not clear who the OP means.

14. What buttons was Obama pushing when he said America is Greater Than It's Ever Been?
Sat Dec 3, 2016, 07:06 PM
Dec 2016

He said that to a country where half the population cannot meet an unexpected $400 expense, where half the people are poor or near poor. Where young people are choking on student loan debt. Where millions of families lost their homes to foreclosure fraud by the big banks.

Many of them white, who don't feel they are rolling in white privilege.

It's not really working for Democrats to feel comfortable wholesale insulting white people. For prominent surrogates of Hillary to laugh about white men going extinct.

If I'm a tad sensitive, so be it. I'm not going to be quiet any longer.

Some as far back as the Lee Atwater and the Southern strategy. And who sided with Reagan to help kill unions that were responsible for them having good paying jobs in the first place.

I prefer sticking with the progressive whites who have been with us all along and not the ones who vote against their owe and our own economic interest.

So there's a counterexample.

Then again, I have not a single clue who "Tomi Lahren" is and I don't think I've even seen a picture of Trevor Noah.

Don't find jousts all that interesting, either. I may be old, but I'm not old enough to remember actual jousting.

(Yeah, I know that the title doesn't mean "each and every", but that's exactly how such titles are taken when they refer to similar headlines involving non-whites. Bare generic plurals are subject to a lot of misinterpretation, much of it willful, some of it accidental. None of it is necessary.)

Watching her with Noah, it was clear that she couldn't think on her feet and I don't think she even understand what Noah was saying at points (e.g., When Noah nailed the irony of her saying, "as a millennial I'm not into labels.&quot
