KTVU: Expect death toll to rise above 100

Someone on KTVU made a point that Oakland FD found 33 bodies after searching 35% of the building, so expect the death toll to get far worse.

3. Saw some of the pix from the site

The electrical wiring was awful! Bare wires out in the open.
No sprinklers, bad egress. Windows welded shut. Just a god-awful situation.

5. That's assuming an even-distribution of the deceased.

Unfortunately, the death toll is likely to rise, but I would guess (and certainly hope) that it's not going to be >100. Reading about previous fires in crowded facilities, the dead usually are concentrated in groups near the exits where the mass of people gets jammed . Given that those are also the ingress points, that 35% probably covered much of the high fatality areas...

At least that's what I hope...

Not only was there a party, but the owner and/or manager were illegal renting out living space.

No doubt the count will climb, but no official has speculated about the final toll.

Stairs made of wooden pallets. No emergency exits. Windows welded shut. Lots of paint.

14. Your thread title implies that KTVU is reporting that the death toll

is expected to rise above 100. That's not the case as far as I can find***. It comes across as very misleading. This was a terrible tragedy. There is no reason to sensationalize it further like this.

Nothing about over 100 expected to be found dead.

Good lord, 33 is bad enough, and many still missing.

Tragic.
