Where and When Will Trump's Immigrant Purge Begin?

I don't think he'll go after Hispanic people first. There are too many, and his plan will probably require some development and fine-tuning. So, he's likely to start with another group, one that does not have the numbers or popular support. I'm thinking that the first initiative will begin with Middle-Eastern or African Muslims. How it will probably work will be with a demand that all such immigrants report to some location in the cities they inhabit and demonstrate that they are here legally. Notices will be posted, announcements will be made, and a time period set for showing one's "papers" and registering.

Those who do not appear will be rounded up and "transported" for "processing." Those who do show up for this "vetting," but who do not or cannot properly account for themselves will also be "transported" for further review of their documentation. Underutilized military bases will probably be used to house and "protect" these "transportees." There are plenty of those around the country. There is no shortage of facilities that could be used. Those who are not "transported" will have their identities and addresses entered into a database for future reference, of course.

Mid-sized population centers like the Twin Cities in Minnesota will be likely the first to be the sites selected. The initial actions will be testing grounds, to work on procedures and processes before moving on to cities with larger "target" populations. Once the process is working well, the government can turn to other groups that have larger populations to "process."

All of this, of course, will be done according to laws passed by Congress and signed by the President, so it will all be "legal". It's all in the name of "Homeland Security," you see. It's for everyone's "protection." With the registry created and fear put into the minds of everyone who has been targeted, further "selection" and "processing" can take place.

Sound far-fetched? It's not, really. We've done it before, back during FDR's time, to people of Japanese ancestry. There was almost no objection by the general population to the rounding up and internment of even native-born citizens with that ancestry at that time. If you think it can't happen here, believe me - it can and has. During Eisenhower's administration, a similar thing was done to Hispanics, with tens of thousands of legal and illegal immigrants summarily deported in California. In the 1960s, all foreign nationals living in the United States had to register their address annually. Don't remember that? I do. There were TV ads every December reminding resident "aliens" that they must register. Our nation has taken such steps in the past. I will not be surprised if Donald Trump does it again, but on a larger scale.

Be alert. Be prepared to defend the rights of groups where you live if they are subjected to such a program. It won't happen right away, but it certainly may be part of a long-range plan by some.

He was already backing down on the wall and the mass purge by the end of the campaign and he's reportedly told advisors that he's a little surprised that people took the things he said literally, so it's possible it was little more than window dressing.

Same thing with the Muslim registry. Don't see that one happening.

Make e-verify mandatory. Fine companies that dont use it. Use those fines to increase enforcement.

Kicking out a million undocumented workers is not feasable

Take away their emloyment and they will stop comming, and some will go back on their own.

Look at his history-- quick fixes, fast "deals" and then nothing. He gets off on the publicity of his announcements, and then nothing. No serious followup when things get even a little iffy or tough.

His strategy when serious thought or work is involved is to bail and claim "victory".

So, when questions about immigrants, like kids brought over, immigrant parents of kids born here, immigrants who have been pillars of the community for years, but never got around to becoming fully legal... the whole thing will fold. Farmers are already in revolt in states where Mexican and C.A. workers have been chased off. Entire cities, like Elizabeth, NJ, are dependent upon Hispanic and Brazilian business. The Ironbound in Newark is similarly South American. There are a few towns in central Joisey that are largely Indian, and parts of Queens, NYC, that are entirely Asian.

And what about those Cubans? And the South, Southwest and Pacific Coast with huge immigrant populations?

Aside from the fact that we are all immigrants, immigration is now, as it has in the past, bringing some of the best people from around the world. People with guts, imagination, hard work and see the US as their shining future. Trump can tweet all he wants, but these people are our neighbors-- Trump can't, and won't, chase them out.

1. Aggressive enforcement/deportation of undocumented immigrants who are identified as such during routine law enforcement encounters...ie strong arming 'sanctuary cities' into this enforcement.

2. Streamlining deportation proceedings...no more release with promise to return to court at a later date.

3. Almost immediate cessation of accepting Syrian refugees.

4. A blacklist of middle eastern nations for which we will not issue student visas.

5. Extradition on non-citizen prisoners to Mexico. He will use a threat of wire transfer fees try and blackmail the Mexican government.

6. Aggressive enforcement of civil penalties for US Companies that hire undocumented workers.

This will likely spark a new group of Arpaio type sheriffs, who begin (at the local level) immigrant sweeps. If they are confident those they capture will not clog up their prisons, but instead go to federal hands, they will do this often to build 'law and order' election cred. This is where most of the 'round ups' and splitting families will happen - at the local level, in counties where there is no political down side to it.

Now at the end of the day, we need Mexican immigrants. Ours is a growth economy (success or failure is measured by growth of GDP), and with an aging population, immigration is the best (possibly only) way to perpetuate the economy. I think Trump knows this (I'd wager there are hundreds of immigrants working in his hotels and golf course right now). And he's strong arming US companies not to go to Mexico...the rest of that card trick is to simply bring the Mexican workers here. So I actually think there may be an increase in work permits/legal immigration. I could even see a situation where US companies build near the southern border, with workers making a daily commute from Mexico to work in them.

As far as registering addresses goes, I sort of thought that was already a requirement. I knew somebody from India who was here at first on a student Visa, and later a work Visa...and he was constantly having to address paperwork requirements like that. I dunno. But if it isn't now, I agree that in the future that would be a requirement.

IIRC, the mass deportations in the 1950s had a pejorative term for a name...that wouldn't fly today, under any circumstance. So I really don't think the nation will completely revert to the 1950s.

It's just pandering, he knew the RW base would eat it up, so he fed them.

He'll just show the statistics of illegal immigration from Mexican citizens are down and say it's the result of his new "tough" policy on immigration and he can't deport because of the Democrats in Congress won't give him the funding.

Of course, immigration from Mexican Citizens is down due to something entirely different.....the economic growth of Mexico.
