On Nov. 29, Coleman Bonner of Wessington in Chilton County posted a message to his personal Facebook page in regards to the wildfires in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevier County, Tennessee.
"Funny story. I was recently in Gatlinburg. Had a terrible time. I felt the place was a cesspool of consumerism and a bastion of the worst aspect of southern culture. Turns out a wildfire just burned most of the town to the ground. Good riddance, Gatlinburg. And good luck you mouth-breathing, toothless, diabetic, cousin-humpin,' mountain-dew chugging, moon-pie-munchin,' pall-mall smoking,', Trump-suckin' pond scum. (Chuckles and smiles like the smarmy liberal elitist I am," Bonner wrote.
The post came just days after as many as 14,000 people were evacuated from Gatlinburg and the surrounding area after a wildfire on the Great Smoky Mountain National Park's Chimneys Top 2 Trail spread into the tourist town. As many as 17,000 acres have burned, 1,700 structures have been damaged or destroyed and 14 people have died as a result of the blaze.
Shortly after his post, Bonner's employer, Express Oil Change and Tire Engineers, began receiving messages about the statements.
Express Oil Change said after "fully and thoroughly" investigating the situation, Coleman is no longer employed with the Birmingham-based company.

(41,963 posts)He sounds as though he thinks he's reeeeeaally funny. He's not he's a dick. Punch up, Sparky. You don't do that to suffering people.
Btw not to go all conspiracy theory but it sounds kind of fake, with the "cesspool of consumerism and bastion of the worst aspect of southern culture" remarks, as well as the "smarmy liberal elitist" one. I get snide asides and sarcasm but something about it does NOT say Alabama guy who works doing oil changes.

(11,738 posts)The Gatlinburg fire is a human tragedy despite who the victims may be. The guy used the opportunity to make extremely insensitive comments and his employer did not want him representing the company.
When right wingers say stupid things about women or minority groups and lose their jobs as a result of making stupid comments, we tend to celebrate. This guy did a similar thing (understanding that he was not attacking a protected group) and there was a consequence.
We can say that the people who supported Trump are going to get hit hardest. We can even say, "I told you so" and have less sympathy for those people, but we are talking about people who have lost their homes and some, their lives to possible arson. We do not have to be complete idiots even when the other side of the political spectrum sometime act like complete idiots.

(293 posts)even went so far as to check on the voting totals and it is as expected, about 80% Trump BUT then my better side of myself started thinking of the 20% Democrats affected and dropped it. I think myself going that far made me think more about the way I think of people.
Thanks for posting this thread.
