Pope Francis compares fake news consumption to eating feces.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/dec/07/pope-compares-fake-news-consumption-to-eating-faeces-coprophilia

Pope Francis has lambasted media organisations that focus on scandals and smears and promote fake news as a means of discrediting people in public life. Spreading disinformation was “probably the greatest damage that the media can do”, the pontiff told the Belgian Catholic weekly Tertio. It is a sin to defame people, he added.

Using striking terminology, Francis said journalists and the media must avoid falling into “coprophilia” – an abnormal interest in excrement. Those reading or watching such stories risked behaving like coprophagics, people who eat faeces, he added.

The pope excused himself for using terminology that some might find repellent. “I think the media have to be very clear, very transparent, and not fall into – no offence intended – the sickness of coprophilia, that is, always wanting to cover scandals, covering nasty things, even if they are true,” he said. “And since people have a tendency towards the sickness of coprophagia, a lot of damage can be done.”

He also spoke of the danger of using the media to slander political rivals. “The means of communication have their own temptations, they can be tempted by slander, and therefore used to slander people, to smear them, this above all in the world of politics,” he said.

“They can be used as means of defamation. No one has a right to do this. It is a sin and it is hurtful.”

They are the age old kinds of " always wanting to cover scandals." They've seriously hurt their standing in the world with their desire to protect criminals within their ranks.

Creative to avoid the contextually relevant while validating your biases. I'd also use a hand-me-down Freudian slip without any objective evidence supporting it to better maintain the pretense of cleverness as well... much like we do with hydrogen.

While Pope Francis gave speeches around the world centered on the dangers of electing tyrants that seek to build walls, our media looked the other way and allowed the BS story of the Popes endorsement of Trump to flourish.

"No tyranny finds support without tapping into our fears," Francis said. "This is key. Hence, all tyranny is terrorist. And when this terror -- which was sown in the peripheries, with the massacres, looting, oppression and injustice -- explodes in centers with different forms of violence, even hateful and cowardly attacks, citizens who still retain some rights are tempted to the false security of physical or social walls.
"Walls that enclose some and banish others. Walled citizens, terrified on one side, excluded, exiled, and still more terrified on the other. Is that the life that our Father God wants for their children?
"Dear brothers and sisters -- all walls fall. All of them. Do not be fooled."

The above speech was given three days before the election, it's clearly aimed at the American public but the networks buried it. Francis has every right to call the media shit eaters!

is not a Christian.

Pope Francis spoke out strongly on the side of Love, but the haters claimed him for one of their own. And the media helped.
