Just putting this out there. Fly flags at 1/2 mast on 1/20...

Just want to ask and gauge people's opinions on this idea. I realize that many might feel this is disrespectful to real people who we cherished who have passed away. Perhaps disrespectful to the uniform, I don't know because I don't feel any of those but I respect those who would. And as a Canadian I don't have that much of a stock in the outcome anyway.

At any rate the idea is that anyone in charge of flying a US flag, be it a personal one on their own property or one on federal property. Hoist it to 1/2 mast on 1/20 as a sign of protest and as a memorial for what you are about to lose. Now obviously this might be a risky thing to do if you work for the government or a company and part of your job is to look after said task of hoisting the flag. So I would fully understand those who would not want to do this because of job security as well as the excuse I stated in my first paragraph. Otherwise, however it seems to me a fitting and powerful silent symbol to display.

Because of its universal acceptance as a symbol of mourning. In this case possibly the mourning of the loss a democracy itself, at least good portions of it.

how I feel, I do not think our current flag represents what we will be starting on 1/20. Our flag stands for the United States of America not the Corporation Of Trump. I feel we just lost our country.

It's more than just a US phenomenon however. We are seeing the resurgence of ultra right wing politics the world over. Europe has had to fight tooth and nail against the growing support of fascist figures. Brexit is just one of several examples. I am terrified to be honest and I don't even live in the US. I fear that the world is headed towards another tipping point. It's true we have witnessed an unprecedented era of peace, prosperity and growth post WWII. But I feel it in my "bones", that that period is ending. We now enter a VERY uncertain and extremely fragile moment in history. It's possible that WWIII may never come about. On the other had, I feel it's equally possible that we are just one, particularly stupid, Donald Trump tweet away from some form of WWIII (what that may look like in specifics only time will tell).
