Whether it's defiance, stupidity or long-term political strategy, two GOP hard-liners swear they'll play toughGARY LEGUM
Considering how the Republican Party has fallen in line behind Donald Trump over the last few months, does anyone seriously think that this will ever amount to anything? The Chicago Tribune recently reported on Thursday:
Sure thing. And Ive got a bridge over the Potomac to sell you.
Of course there are many, many reasons for strict oversight of the Trump administration. If anything has been made clear by the four weeks of the transition period, it is that this White House will be awash in so many conflicts of interest with Trump family businesses, so much corruption and grift and influence peddling, it will make Warren G. Hardings presidency look like a model of moral rectitude. But Trump has already made it clear that either he does not see why his burgeoning kleptocracy is a problem or he does not care. Moreover, the rest of the Republican Party has all but said outright that it is completely fine with the Trump White House being awash in filth so long as he signs whatever bills are slapped in front of him.

(31,516 posts)regarding DT's cabinet choices. I was very respectful and reminded them of DT's political inexperience and asked them use their knowledge and experience when considering his appointments when it came to their duties of advice and consent so they could help DT assemble the best cabinet possible.
I haven't heard anything from Cotton, but here's the reply I received from Boozman.
Thank you for contacting me to share your thoughts on personnel appointments in the administration of President-elect Donald Trump. It is good to hear from you.
As you may know, Article II, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution specifies that some presidential appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. These include the heads of Cabinet-level departments and agencies as well as some other executive officers. There are also positions within the administration that the president-elect is free to select without any input from Congress, including the roles of White House Chief of Staff and some other advisors.
I understand that you have concerns about some of the individuals who may be nominated by the president-elect to serve in his administration. The president-elect has said that he is focused on uniting Americans after a divisive election. I also share this goal and plan to work in a bipartisan manner to improve the lives of citizens across our country. I trust that the president-elect will surround himself with staff who will make this their top priority.
Additionally, I welcome opportunities to weigh in on the nominees that President-elect Trump will put forward for Senate confirmation. I anticipate that the men and women he chooses to help lead his administration will be highly qualified individuals of character with proven records of expertise, but I am eager to evaluate each nominee on the basis of his or her own merits. I look forward to carefully considering each nominee in accordance with my constitutional duty.
Again, thank you for contacting me to share your views. Please visit www.boozman.senate.gov to sign up for my e-newsletter , request assistance with a federal agency, or learn more about my efforts on behalf of the people of Arkansas. I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
My guess is that he'll get a rubber stamp on his appointments.

Herding Trump'll probably be somewhat like trying to herd a pack of bad-tempered cats. He can be coaxed into trotting up up for a treat, but at the same time he's splitting in other directions. He can sometimes be pushed a little, yes, but then, or before if no, he'll explode in a spitting and hissing furball before attaching himself to a nearby leg for a few good gouges, then running away.
