For the thousands hoping to echo the civil rights and anti-Vietnam rallies at Lincoln Memorial by joining the womens march on Washington the day after Donald Trumps inauguration: time to readjust your expectations.
The Womens March wont be held at the Lincoln Memorial.
Thats because the National Park Service, on behalf of the Presidential Inauguration Committee, filed documents securing large swaths of the national mall and Pennsylvania Avenue, the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial for the inauguration festivities. None of these spots will be open for protesters.
The NPS filed a massive omnibus blocking permit for many of Washington DCs most famous political locations for days and weeks before and after the inauguration on 20 January, said Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, a constitutional rights litigator and the executive director of the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund.

(14,449 posts)If they were able to be in these areas then trump protesters should to. I'd love to know the answer to that and a story in every newspaper saying so.

(5,591 posts)I, as most people with working brains and a heart that beats genuine red blood, am running out of words for...everything attached to this...human, his faux Party, his anti-humanity machine and souless supporters.
America is disappearing before our eyes every second. I've signed countless petitions, emailed representatives, called some, used social media, have friends going to the Women's March.
I just don't know.
There are no words.
Civil or otherwise.

(475 posts)Applying for permits is literally the opposite of what protesting is. It makes you nothing but sheep.
If people wanted to get serious we could stop the inauguration in it's entirety. 100,000 cases of civil disobedience that freezes up all transportation leading to the state house, crippling DC and infuriating senators/congressmen/Trump seems like a more effective protest.

(10,178 posts)That's what protests are supposed to be, not some namby pamby, tippy toe "legal" horseshit. Raise HELL! Fuck, now I want to go so they can see old ladies being beaten and arrested on T.V.
