Trump presidency. I wouldn't let them fight any Trump wars and given the people he's surrounding himself with - you just know that that is where this is going. He's leading with his chin on purpose. Just waiting for an opportunity when he's the so-called commander in chief to engage.

In this case you wouldn't be fighting and dying for your country - you'd be fighting and dying for Donald Trump.

"Let's honor our vets who fought for our freedom". And so forth. Most people I know who joined the military didn't give two shits about the country, they just wanted to make some money and see the world. And maybe have some kind of a shot at a decent job after they were discharged. These were friends of mine and never once did I hear them talk about "fighting for the glory of the USA." or anything like that.

he could go to college. He said most people do join because college has become out of reach unless you go into the military and some are in there because it is the only way they can earn enough to survive and support their families.

I joined the Air Force when I learned I was going to be drafted the next month. I learned a trade in the Air Force which proved valuable in civilian life. Now I'm retired. I feel my tour in the military was a positive factor in my life.

However I have told my grandsons to avoid joining the military if possible. It's my opinion that today the military is not always fighting for our freedom and democracy but all too often for the interests of the oligarchy that currently is running our nation.
