Would an organized boycott of Twitter be effective?

I read this article and it really got me thinking.

Critics of Trump's nasty Twitter attacks miss the point: He simply cannot stop even if he wanted to
http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/critics-trump-nasty-twitter-attacks-point-article-1.2904936?cid=bitly

Basically, Trump is full-on Twitter addict. He is addicted to the attention he gets from Twitter as much as his brother was addicted to alcohol. That addiction is proving dangerous to the country as well as individuals who oppose him. Twitter enables this by giving him a platform to bully others.

I think we need to boycott Twitter and encourage everyone to follow suit. Pressure celebrities, comedians, companies, and anyone else who uses it to join the boycott the service as well. Stand against Trump's use of it for his destructive goals. Hold Twitter up as part of the problem for enabling his bullying and destructive speech.

Basically, lay down the ultimatum - either Trump leaves or we leave.

It would accomplish a few goals:

-- The boycott would deny Trump of his platform (and deny fuel to his addiction)

-- A boycott would reduce traffic and make Twitter less and less appealing to the public at large.

-- It impacts the stock price of a company that is already struggling.

-- Ultimately, it would put pressure on the CEO of Twitter to revoke Trump's Twitter account.

Would this be effective?

He likes the responses he gets.. block/ignore him and let his head explode when he doesn't get his attention.

I never look at Twitter. The reality is that most people don't, if you consider the whole population.

If you don't ever use Twitter, nobody will know or care that you don't. Even if many people stopped using Twitter, nobody would really notice, because it would be a small fraction of Twitter users.

Twitter's not going to block Trump's account. It makes money for them. If they did, Trump would just move to some other social media outlet and his fans would follow him there.

So, you can boycott Twitter. I do, because I don't find it useful in any way. But boycotting Twitter won't accomplish any real goals that affect anyone but you.
