The ultimate participation trophy

I found out Friday that my employer will give December 26th off as a holiday. I do not know what holiday is on December 26th. Christmas is on a Sunday, we have the day off. But apparently, we have to make sure everyone gets a participation trophy. Heaven forbid everyone's ego not be properly fed.

"What else can I be," returned the uncle, "when I live in such a world of fools as this? Merry Christmas! Out upon merry Christmas! What's Christmas time to you but a time for paying bills without money; a time for finding yourself a year older, but not an hour richer; a time for balancing your books and having every item in 'em through a round dozen of months presented dead against you? If I could work my will," said Scrooge indignantly, "every idiot who goes about with 'Merry Christmas' on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart. He should!"

Federal law (5 U.S.C. 6103) establishes the following public holidays for Federal employees. Please note that most Federal employees work on a Monday through Friday schedule. For these employees, when a holiday falls on a nonworkday -- Saturday or Sunday -- the holiday usually is observed on Monday (if the holiday falls on Sunday) or Friday (if the holiday falls on Saturday).

When a holiday falls on a weekend, the day off is Friday if the holiday is on Saturday and Monday if the holiday is on Sunday. It has been this way for years and years.

And sounds like you want everybody to since you have a problem with it.

Unfortunately American workers have way too few days off and have way too harsh working conditions considering levels of pay and so on.
