Democrats in Congress are trying a new strategy: When it comes to the economy, adopt Donald Trump‘s message.

Under the Capitol’s dome and far from depopulated coal country and abandoned steel mills, Democratic members in the Senate and House have been calling for a new renewed focus on winning over blue-collar workers, floating measures on outsourcing and cheap imports and honing a message intended to reinvigorate their base.

Weeks of hand-wringing, exit poll studying and self-reflection have led many Democrats in Congress and across the country to believe that they lost sight of their economic message during the 2016 campaign, allowing Trump to co-opt Democrats’ agenda and become a working-class hero.

4. Stupid Democrats

These Democrats are stupid. The polls have shown that Hillary Clinton did very well among people who cared about the economy. The article states,

"Clinton exceeded Obama’s performance among people in those states who said the economy was the most important issue facing the country—but was badly outperformed by Trump among those who wanted to see a president who “can bring change.”"

Democrats do not need to adopt Donald Trump's agenda, which is actually the Democratic Party's agenda, which is what Hillary Clinton's campaign was centered around. Democrats need to call Donald Trump out for what he is, a fake populist. They need to point out that it was Trump who bought Chinese steel, moved his jobs overseas, and hired illegal workers so he could pay them less than American workers. They need to point out that Donald Trump's main agenda is not to tax companies that move jobs overseas at a 35% tax rate, but to cut corporate taxes to 15%. They also need to demand that Trump explain what will happen to his and his daughter's companies which moved their jobs overseas. Will those companies be taxed at a rate of 35% percent when those goods are sold in the United States? It should then be pointed out that Ivanka Trump just moved the production her good from China to Ethiopia because production costs are cheaper in Ethiopia. Then they need to ask how far will Donald Trump go with corporate tax cuts. Will he eventually say we need a corporate tax rate of 0%. They also need to point out what will have to happen if corporate taxes are cut to 15%. In order to cut taxes to that rate and not have deficits and massive debt we would have to make massive cuts to non-defense spending. Do the American people really want those cuts?
