by Josh Feldman | 2:29 pm, December 13th, 2016
David Brock, founder of Media Matters and groups like Correct the Record, thinks that Democrats need to be tougher with the press going forward.
Brock spoke with Politicos Glenn Thrush on his Off Message podcast to reflect on 2016. And Brock had a lot to say about the media covered Hillary Clinton versus Donald Trump.
He lamented how coverage of Clinton-related scandals overshadowed other important pieces of news. (Last night on The Daily Show, President Obama too expressed some astonishment at how fairly routine emails dominated the election.) Brock told Thrush that certain people in the press were pushing the bunk idea that Clinton was a bad candidate with no message. And while he doesnt think Democrats should be emulating Trumps treatment of the press, they do need to step up:
This is a lesson learned. Donald Trump intimidated the press and bullied the press. Im not saying you have to intimidate and bully, but you have to be tough. The press are animals and they need to be treated that way.

(7,512 posts)He used them. He said whatever he could to get their attention and they gave it to him in droves and ignored everything and everyone else. They got played just like the rust belt voters got played. Now the media is completely in bed with him.

(7,512 posts)He threatens to sue everyone, even his wife does it. Nothing ever comes of of it. Not one time did his threats lead to a retraction.
My point was anyway, he didn't need to threaten them. He had them right were he wanted them the entire election season.
