If Some Trump Electors Vote for Someone (Not Hillary) He Still Wins

Because the House then gets to pick if no candidate gets 270 votes. And the House can only pcik from the candidates, meaning no back room deals to select someone else.

I expect to see a small number switch their votes to someone like Ronald Reagan for theater---and anyone who tries to switch to Clinton will receive death threats.

Do not expect a save from the electoral college. Unless the electors can get Secret Service protection for life, they will not dare do it.

the house chooses from among the top *three* electoral vote-getters.

so if a majority of the trump defectors vote for, say, kasich, then the house could choose kasich (or trump anyway; or in theory hillary, but they'd never do that.)

in principle, hillary's electors could play a similar game and even more of them could vote for another democrat (say, sanders), denying kasich third place. but then the house would just choose trump after all.

the only way to prevent the house from choosing trump would be if enough electors defect, and vote in the right way, to deny trump even third place, which is quite unfathomable.

and not one of them wants to face the wrath of the teabaggers, who will go after anyone who doesn't toe the Trump line. Remember what they did to Cantor? Well, they are much more rabidly crazy now.

Face it, Trump is the next Prez, and the only hope for not having him and his agenda for the next 4 years, is to pull out all the stops to win the 2018 midterms.

The world hangs on the common sense and goodwill of Republicons. So that sums up our chances.
