Protesters storm NC state capitol as Republicans try to strip power from new Democrat governor

http://www.rawstory.com/2016/12/protesters-storm-nc-state-capitol-as-republicans-try-to-strip-power-from-new-democrat-governor/

Protesters sang, chanted and marched in Raleigh, North Carolina on Thursday to protest the state Republican Party’s attempts to undermine newly elected Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper by sharply limiting his powers.

Raleigh News and Observer reporter Colin Campbell posted video of the protesters as they sang “We Shall Not Be Moved” and attempted to disrupt the current session of the Republican-led state Senate. The state GOP is penning a law that it hopes will cripple the Cooper administration before the new governor is even sworn in.

What's happening in North Carolina right now is an attack on democracy. If you can get to the capitol, please go bear witness.

There is lousy connectivity in the capitol, so hard to get a real livestream. But people are able to post tweets and photos. Give the protestors some love!

Partisanship has gotten out of hand. No more Mr. Nice Guy, we need to gum it up so bad they will have to sit down and work this crap out to where we go back to following rules and tradition. They need to let the will of the people handle it unless the Russians hacked the election to put Cooper in the State House!

One of the bills passed gives the GOP control over the State Board of Elections during Even years and Dems control during Odd years.

Yes, I can see why citizens entering their own public building would constitute storming. And they're being arrested for trespass, it appears.
Whose government is it, again?

And can't the Feds intervene in this mess? Seems like the Thugs can do WHATEVER THE HELL THEY WANT, while Dems just go along to get along and never try to stop them. Some gov't entity has to be able to uphold democracy- what tiny little bit of it there is left. I don't get it.

Mr Obama is not an interventionist President to begin with, and he's certainly not likely to interfere with an internal North Carolina matter. He didn't intervene in Wisconsin under similar conditions, after all.

And the poor sucker has rather a lot on his plate, just now.
