Free Cash in Finland. Must be Jobless. (NYtimes)

By PETER S. GOODMAN -- DEC. 17, 2016
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/17/business/economy/universal-basic-income-finland.html?_r=0

Finland will soon hand out cash to 2,000 jobless people, free of bureaucracy or limits on side earnings. The idea, universal basic income, is gaining traction worldwide.

The government is eager to see what happens next.
The answers — to be determined over a two-year trial — could shape social welfare policy far beyond Nordic terrain. In communities around the world, officials are exploring basic income as a way to lessen the vulnerabilities of working people exposed to the vagaries of global trade and automation. While basic income is still an emerging idea, one far from being deployed on a large scale, the growing experimentation underscores the deep need to find effective means to alleviate the perils of globalization.

the Malicious Intruder Response Team. It's a number of DUers that volunteer to help maintain order by looking at new posters for inappropriate content, spam etc; basically any newbie under 100 posts looking to disrupt the site. In this case a member of MIRT alerted on their post and they discussed among themselves and reached a consensus that this one was just trolling the board so off they went.

Do you just hate people? You don't know anyone in your life who cannot work and cannot make a living and is struggling to keep a roof over their head and food on their plates? People who are disabled or mentally ill or suffered a catastrophe? People who can't find work because of economic problems and lose everything?

You'd rather they starve on the streets? Because that's what happens in most places as people fall through the giant cracks in our social services and get abandoned by their communities. Even in the so-called wealthiest nations.

Holy shit. Welcome to DU. Enjoy your stay.

You dropped a giant turd. You may not really mean what you said, but you said it, and you don't get to play dumb about it or pretend it's not what you said.

You chose those words knowing you'd get piled on. Congrats. I'm done playing. Not in the mood. It's bitter cold where I am and I am worried about people I love who have nowhere to go. So your dehumanizing crap pissed me off and I'm not apologizing for it.

The point to this, that you clearly missed, is not about the money. It is about seeing if there are improvements in their situation and HOW it improved their lives.

Helping people is never a waste of money. Helping people is not a waste of time. What a shitty way to see life. I feel sorry for you.

Regardless of the source, since the online model basically requires it for revenue. One more way the media is getting worse.

The good news is, it seems to have worked so the thread is getting attention, whereas if you had rewritten the thread title with something reasonable, it may have sunk like a stone

I agree. Also, the virus of a troll came onto this thread, pissed people off, and has now been removed.
What an entertaining thread this turned out to be. I just thought it was cool what the Fins are doing and it will be a good idea to keep watch and learn as it unfolds. Silly me. I was being practical.
