Is the GOP Stepping Into an Obamacare Trap?

https://politicalwire.com/2016/12/17/gop-stepping-obamacare-trap/

"SNIP............

Rich Lowry: “Let me stipulate that I’m grateful for anything Republicans can do on Obamacare and we are light years away from where we would have been if Trump hadn’t won. But there are a couple of worries here: 1) the GOP is thinking of the Obamacare partial-repeal as a way to get an “early win,” but it may play very differently in political terms; 2) there will presumably be a score pointing out that the partial-repeal will cost millions of people their insurance and we have no idea how Trump will react to it–it’s possible that he distances himself from what Republicans are doing the first time he’s asked about it in an interview; 3) the root of the problem here is that Republicans don’t have 60 votes for a full repeal and replace.”

“A Republican senator told me the other day that he believes the difficulties that the party will have grappling with Obamacare will force the GOP to reconsider the filibuster altogether, although it’s hard to see senate Republicans getting a consensus among themselves for that.”

1. The Repugs Will Use Repeal & Delay....

I heard that they may wait up to 3 years in this delay tactic. Then with very few tweaks - ones that Dems have suggested since the inception of ACA (Obamacare) it will be relaunched with a new name (maybe Trumpcare) and that will be considered their victory. They will have removed Obama's name - which I think bugged them the most. I believe that is what they want to achieve the most - remove his name from the success it is - and claim the success for themselves.

2. Which is hilarious because they're the ones who kept insisting on calling it

Obamacare as a pejorative instead of ACA to begin with.

Maybe they could just go back to ACA and be done with it.

3. When They Realized The Popularity Of Obamacare....

they regretted coining it as such. They thought they were putting a negative spin on it by tying it to Obama and it backfired.

Obama realized this and actually started using the Obamacare moniker himself to taunt them.

Since then - how many times did they try to repeal it?

Now they have the chance of removing his name once and for all.

I think this too will backfire on them - as we American People will always refer to it as Obamacare.

4. They hated it because democrats proposed a right-wing plan

The whole mandate/market idea was a heritage foundation plan as a right-wing, market-based alternative to hillarycare or single payer. Obama's triangulation really burned them.

And that's why they haven't come up with a replacement, because Obamacare *was* their plan.

So, yeah, they just have to change it enough so they can slap their donnie's name on it, but it'll still be basically the same plan. They have no alternative.

6. Their biggest problem is that Obamacare was a Heritage Foundation plan way back when.
