Which is the alternate reality?
How do I stay in the light? I cannot trust "facts" that do not comport with reality.
I am surrounded by a cult of personality. His followers have been nurtured on hate and racism and xenophobia.
It is surreal and over-whelming. People stop talking. They walk silently by without speaking, for fear of some unforeseen consequence.
But, it is not a movie. It is real and undefined.

When my radio went off early the next morning and the blokes on the BBC were talking about "President elect Trump" I honestly felt I'd somehow been dropped into an alternate Universe.
I still think that may be the case.

All we can do now is watch the destruction. And protest and stay engaged, of course...

(2,955 posts)Ever since the election I feel like I've had a different outlook on life. Before I was hopeful when looking toward the future and believed mankind was still making progress towards a brighter tomorrow. Now I've grown much more pessimistic and believe we're entering a downturn on the graph of progress. Science denial has become socially acceptable, and even encouraged. People would rather vote for the charismatic demagogue than for the sane and qualified candidate. Hordes of ignorant people are being easily swayed into voting against their own economic self interests. I fear that 50% of our country has fallen to ignorance, hate, emotional thinking, and simple stupidity.
