Cat who went missing 11 years ago is back home, thanks to a microchip

By Michael Kelly / World-Herald columnist Updated 6 hrs ago

Allie the Cat is back — after 11 years away from home.

“After she disappeared,” said owner Karen Jarnecic, “I didn’t know if she was hit by a car or had died. I just hoped for the best.”

Recently, Karen received a call from an animal clinic asking if she owned a cat named Allie.

Yes!

and had a black cat that after by fate he got a dog and the cat left. A couple years later the dog, bless her heart, died of a snake bite. A few weeks later the Cat showed back up just as loving as it was before.
We lost our Border Collie a couple years ago to old age and haven't replaced her with another pet so me and my brothers stray dog bonded and and I really miss her too.

Yeah, I know, that's not the point. It's a Monday, and I'm on only my fourth cup of coffee. Give me some time to warm up, please.

Okay, great story.

We adopted two brother cats and had them both chipped. The chip disappeared in one of the cats. It was in place right after it was inserted. When we had both the cats checked a few months later the chip was present in one of the cats but not the other. Did it disintegrate or work its way out of the cat? A mystery. Has this happened to any one else?
