(8,390 posts)I don't think this is particularly kind. Sure, people were holding out hope, but most of us are still grieving.

(31,122 posts)The very reason the electoral college exists is to rectify mistakes of the voters.
Was there any chance of it happening? Of course not, that would mean these electors would have to understand the government they work in or care about it.
It would mean they would have to watch something other than Fox News or Breitbart, also not going to happen.
But they had to be told this was their job, and hold them accountable.

(52,348 posts)overwhelmingly are sure to put country first and make elizabeth warren president!
that's right, warren! why settle for hillary?
it could happen!
so if the house refuses to certify the electoral votes, they still can only choose from among the top 3 electoral vote-getters, and warren wasn't one of them, right?
well, who's to stop them? the supreme court? but that's just a political institution, they can vote however they want for no particular reason, a precedent established in bush v. gore! they're sure to confirm that the house can choose anyone! perhaps they'll argue that one electoral scribble that some people read as "trump" actually read "warren". sloppy cursive is subject to interpretation, you know.

(29,571 posts)their hands off me. I fully expect the alien civilization that sent Putin and Trump to earth to torment us will complete gathering their data and teleport their cyborgs back to the home galaxy on January 19th. I think I will make some Kool-Aid now.
One of the foregoing sentences is true. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to decide which one.

(538 posts)It was just a foolish hope to expect the Electoral College to stop Trump. A Hail Mary Pass at best. We have to dig in and start the long opposition fight against Trump and his Regime. Dark Days are here.

(15,543 posts)But will those shoes be big enough and smelly enough to convince the degenerate Republican party that it has Screwed the Pooch beyond all point of recognition and decency? So far they have shown not a shred of decency, true American patriotism, honesty or integrity. But, bigly smelly shoes...?

It is still astounding how quickly the Republicans recovered from Nixon. I think the place to start protesting now would be at major media outlets. Attempt to disrupt their operations until they start doing their jobs.

(86,821 posts)I would at least let it advance at times. For example, I would rather entertain the notion that there is a vast, left-wing conspiracy awaiting inauguration day so that the Whitewater-esque fun and games begin and party-wide such that there be a great purge of Rs from halls of governing at every level in 2years.
Or, maybe, aliens come and rescue us by either taking them away or just changing their DNA to a more agreeable sort of being.

(7,963 posts)But, hey in politics, let's just not try because nothing out of the ordinary ever happens, right? Good thing Bernie Sanders doesn't subscribe to this type of thinking. Because some would argue that his entry into the presidential elections was a fantasy too.

(58,785 posts)then I saw it was you.
My coin-in-the-fountain wishful poll "prediction" that 1 in 50 electors would dredge up the sense of duty and guts to reject Trump was, of course, a wasted penny.
If wishes were horses...we'd all get tossed off in the fountain.

(82,383 posts)that if we elect the POTUS that way, the attention that got put onto it. People should be more aware of it. The possibility of a popular vote loser POTUS is always there and now we are getting hit with it bigly. Might make more people think.
