It was God who intervened in our recent election in order to elect Donald Trump to the presidency. It was God who contrary to the teachings of his son, Jesus Christ wanted voters to elect an ignorant, pussy-grabbing, self-serving know-nothing bully to the highest position on the planet.
It was God again contrary to the principles laid out by his only begotten son who wanted the man who thinks sheltering the homeless, feeding the hungry, and caring for the sick and dying are out-dated notions that should be eliminated from our collective consciousness.
Was it God who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with white supremacists who supported Trump, who hailed his election as a win for their side? Exactly when did God don the hooded white sheet and declare himself an ally of the KKK? Perhaps God sent out a press release proclaiming his alliance with such people and I simply failed to see it.
You, Franklin Graham, are the personification of the faux Christian. While pretending to be a follower of The Nazarene, you support a party whose principles stand contrary to his teachings a party whose every effort is aimed at ensuring that sheltering the homeless, feeding the hungry, and caring for the sick and dying are principles that have no place in our society.
It is people like YOU who have proven beyond all doubt that Christian values once revered by Christians and non-Christians alike have now been reduced to talking points that are open to re-interpretation by those whose political leanings take precedence over the message of being ones brothers keeper.
In closing, Franklin, YOU are the Judas Goat who smilingly leads your flock to the slaughterhouse, while jingling those thirty pieces of silver in your pocket - somehow assured that the sound will drown out your willing complicity in their ultimate demise.
As a non-Christian, I can honestly say that I revere the words of The Nazarene, and respect beyond measure those who actually live those words on a daily basis. Perhaps that's why I have a deep and abiding hatred in my heart for those like you, who seek to twist a message of hope and love into a message "re-interpreted for political convenience", all for the sake of political gain.

41 Then He will also say to those on the left hand, Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.
44 Then they also will answer Him, saying, Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You? 45 Then He will answer them, saying, Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me. 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.
Hope you enjoy very warm climates, Franklin.

(8,016 posts)Billy Graham was a friend to all. He never, that I remember, took party sides and you can find pics of him with most of the presidents of his time. I think he would not have gone this same path.

(14,858 posts)Although Graham had a reputation as a largely apolitical figure who was willing to pray with leaders of all parties, he was in fact closely aligned with President Richard M. Nixon in the 1960s and early 70s and often took conservative stands on issues.

Another prominent American who had the ear of the middle America, and was also a supporter of Richard Nixon in 1968, was evangelist Billy Graham. Graham was a very popular religious leader with a huge following. A long-time friend of Nixons, Graham had prominently supported Nixon over Kennedy in the 1960 presidential election. In the 1950s, he had also supported Eisenhower. When Nixon was Vice President, Graham arranged for Nixon to address major gatherings of Methodists, Presbyterians, among others, and wrote at least one speech for him, according to Garry Wills. Graham worked closely with Nixon in the 1968 campaign, advised him on relations with the Evangelical community, and vouched for him in that community, explains Wills in his book Head and Heart: American Christianities. Grahams huge popularity in the south, in particular, was regarded as especially helpful to Nixons Southern strategy in 1968, a bid to appeal to conservative white Democrats in southern states, many still fearful of racial desegregation. Although Graham had desegregated his own religious activities in the South during the 1950s, he denounced civil rights agitators in the 1960s. His endorsement of law and order fit nicely with Nixons plan to attract Southern whites to the Republican side by denouncing liberal activists.
Graham also rose publicly to Nixons defense during the fall election campaign after Humphrey supporter George W. Ball, a former ambassador to the Unite Nations, had made a negative comment about Nixons character. Mr Ball reflected on Mr. Nixons character and personal integrity, said Graham to reporters in September 1968. I have known Richard Nixon intimately for more than 20 years. I can testify that he is a man of high moral principle. Ball had said he thought Nixon a man more interested in public opinion polls that principles. Ball said he found no pattern in Mr. Nixons life. He is a man who is one thing one day, and another the next. Billy Graham was also advising Nixon when he chose Spiro Agnew as his vice president at the Republican convention, although Graham had favored Sen. Mark Hatfield of Oregon, an active Christian. At one of his crusade services in Pittsburgh shortly before the 1968 election, Graham accorded Nixon a place of prominence and praised Nixon effusively, according to author Michael G. Long in his book, The Legacy of Billy Graham.

(8,016 posts)Still, I cannot imagine B.G. being the ugly hateful person toward President Obama that Franklin has been. Maybe I'm just delusional but I just don't think the two are similar. Franklin is so much worse.
