Christie in retreat after rare rebuke by Legislature

http://www.northjersey.com/story/news/columnists/charles-stile/2016/12/19/christie-retreat-after-rare-rebuke-legislature/95634194/

Long Story Short: NJ Governor/Failed Republican Presidential Candidate Chris Christie wants to write a book about his experiences. But there's an ethics law in NJ that prevents him from profiting from sales of such a book until he leaves office (January, 2018). Now nothing's stopping him from writing that book. He's probably got a ghostwriter working on the project as I type. But he won't be able to sign a contract for publishing it and going on CNN, The Today Show, GMA, FOX, etc. as well as go on a book tour without the NJ Legislature making an exception for him alone, to allow him to make money while he's still in office.

It looked like the vote was a lock on Monday morning. Monday afternoon, not so much.

The fact that even a portion of our Democratic legislature was considering supporting either this or the legal notice bill is an atrocity and what is wrong with Democratic party politics in a lot of places.

And it made them look worse that some of them were willing to negotiate with Christie and in exchange for providing him with a book tour windfall exception they were asking for.......pay raises for them and their staff.

We are in solidly liberal and blue New Jersey and these fools feel the need to "play ball" with one of the least popular political figure in NJ history. We should be doing nothing other than laughing at this pathetic ass and how far he's fallen and how much he gave up of his dignity for just a taste of federal power.

“A lot of us asked in caucus a simple question: Why?’’ said one Democratic Assemblyman from North Jersey who spoke anonymously because he was not authorized to detail the deliberations. “Why are we giving Christie this now? Why the rush? Why are we picking a fight with the newspaper industry?” Lawmakers could not justify allowing Christie to reap a profit as a reward for abandoning his post for two years while he barnstormed the country in a failed quest for the Republican nomination for president. How could they defend a giveaway to the unpopular Christie, when, during next fall's election, all 120 seats in the Legislature are up for grabs?
Jeeze! poor Christy
