Homeless for Christmas thanks to insurance company

My homeowners policy won't pay for comparable housing and my husband and I are temporarily crashing with an acquaintance. We had a flood in September and now we have mold from an inadequate cleanup. We left the house two days ago and have been arguing with insurance company ever since. They want to give us only $500 and they are saying our homeowners insurance policy will pay $2000 max for mold. We had a flood and the mold has come from an inadequate cleanup by their remediation company. Our homeowners insurance policy is supposed to cover comparable housing for the duration of the repair.

I am really worried about my husband who is on dialysis and has a complicated medical history. I am really worried that he will end up crippled and have to stop working because of the stress. His dialysis unit is very unhappy about him commuting 40 minutes to dialysis and the overall impact of this situation on his health.

Never mind the amount the insurance company wants to pay is wholly inadequate and no construction company is in the ball park. An idiotic public adjuster got us this claim and we have managed to get her officially kicked off the case.

We live in PA and have USAA. Any ideas on how to proceed.

My FIL was on dialysis, so I understand how that is a real complicating factor. Take care.

what kind of coverage you have on your policy. Then, if you determine that your coverage warrants X and the insurance company is only offering W, call the PA insurance commissioner for help. It is good that you have Flood insurance most don't unless they live in a flood prone area.
