Middleburg Heights teacher disciplined after inappropriate lesson

Source: Fox 8 Cleveland

<snip>

The father of two 14-year-old students at Middleburg Heights Junior High School says he was angry when they showed him a photo they snapped of their algebra lesson from earlier this month.

It reads: "Tony can send 5 texts and 3 nudes in 19 minutes. He could also send 3 texts and 1 nude in 9 minutes. How long would it take him to send one text and one nude?"

"We addressed the teacher and kind of clarified exactly what happened, and in this case provided what we thought was the appropriate consequence, which was clarification that that was inappropriate," said school superintendent Michael Sheppard.

"He's a good teacher, and just in this case used the inappropriate word," said Sheppard.

Fox 8 requested Daniel Rapp's personnel file, but officials said they could not make it immediately available. The superintendent did reveal that the teacher had a similar reprimand in his file.

The sad part is that a lot of 14 year olds ARE sending nude photos with their phones.

They look at t-shirts that say things like "Skilled in all positions" and say ok when the kid says it refers to football; "go for the money shot" and says it refers to basketball. After all, the parent is upset, and the parent = vote for bond initiative, while pissed-off-parent = bad community relations and a time-consuming problem for the administrator, who may get a written reprimand in his file from his boss.

Then a school fires a Spanish teacher for teaching that "negro" is the Spanish word for "black" (while black people are "moreno&quot . Because the parent is upset, and the parent = vote for bond initiative, while pissed-off-parent = bad community relations and a time-consuming problem for the administrator, who may get a written reprimand in his file from his boss.

What's funny is the idea that most kids haven't ever seen the word "nude". It's like some other terms that are used from time to time. I've known fairly young, attractive female teachers who refused to use the word "erect" in class, insisted on using "x" for displacement or distance instead of "d". Why? Because too many of the boys would joke about being "erect" when she was around, and if you say "big d" or "little d" half the class breaks out in laughter.
