These should be 2 major priorities for the Democratic party, starting now:

identifying all the Democrats who were barred from voting because of voter ID laws, and helping them to get the necessary ID.

In Wisconsin, for example, they think more than 300,000 people were barred from voting because of new voter ID requirements; and DT won by only 27,000 votes.

We can't let that happen again. We never should have let that happen this time.

And every Democratic-led state should follow the lead of Oregon and Washington and set up vote-by-mail. We had over 70% participation in both states. Democrats do better in swing states whenever participation rates are high.

If those 300,000 people in WI didn't get worked up about voter repression in the first place, I'm not sure how to get them worked up now.

Business boycotts worked in North Carolina's onerous HB2 bill (well, it worked to get a Democratic governor elected, anyways), why can't businesses stand up for their employees' voting rights as well.

Which is paradoxically harder to do with the voter ID laws. It's amazing how many people on the right believe that without the voter ID's there will be hordes of fake voters, pretending to be dead people, swaying elections. There's no evidence of that ever happening and it's just a tactic to eliminate poor, urban people who don't have cars, but millions of people have been sold on the myth that this is a danger.

There's a master plan to this, with the gerrymandering after the 2010 midterms and the Republicans controlling states that they often didn't, and then enacting measures to stack the deck in their favor.

get the ID, and we should be raising funds to pay for ID's for people who can't afford them.

If we don't get these people voting again, how do you think we'll be able to get good laws passed or good candidates in office?

Soros and Buffett should use their billions to fund pro bono lawyers and paralegals to help each individual in America get ID and get registered to vote. If that requires getting an unfair conviction overturned, put a young lawyer to work on it with the potential voter. If that requires collecting affidavits to obtain a birth certificate for a person for the first time, put a young lawyer to work on it.

Valid ID can help a person in so many ways beyond voting. Getting a checking account, accessing health care, everything is easier with the proper ID. It would be a real service to people, and build good will.
