Consumer Reports Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey tells us how subscribers feel about the cars they bought. But how do the car brands themselves match up? After all, one outstanding modelor a disappointing onedoesnt define a brand.
Our brand rankings represent owner sentiment across each brands product line. (Model satisfaction is determined by the percentage of owners who responded definitely yes to the question of whether they would buy the same vehicle if they had it to do all over again.) To determine brand loveor disdainwe took a straight average of the satisfaction score for each brands models.
In order to qualify, the brand had to have at least two models with data. For this analysis, we focused on cars from model years 2014-2017 to represent the current state of the brands, which included over 300,000 vehicles from the survey.
Our survey revealed that the Tesla, Porsche, Audi, and Subaru brands remained in the top four spots, again this year. Some other brands were on the move. Lincoln climbed from 21st place last year to 12th this year, and Hyundai shot up to 13th from 24th, based on the strength of new and recently redesigned models.

(64,988 posts)But, including new and used, I've never spent more than 19k on a car
If I could find a Tesla for 19k or less, I'm in

(10,125 posts)I think the newly promised model 3 is supposed to come in at around 30k. Sometime next year. I think one can get on the list with a 3k deposit.

(141 posts)I need a new car. Test drive an Avalon the other day, that might be the one I go with.

(43,049 posts)81,000 miles on my '13 Cruze and I'm even on the original brakes. Oil changes every 10,000 miles even though the oil is clean.
Gas mileage in the high 30's, handles great for what it is, seats are comfortable, and I'll probably get the new hatchback if I don't get a Malibu. Every other Chevy owner I meet agrees it's a great brand, and will probably get another one.
I did blow the clutch, but that was entirely my own fault, not the car's. And the heater blower went, but it's on constantly
no matter what the season. I prefer some blower noise to the wind noise with the windows down.

(32,078 posts)And, only a percentage or two difference between a lot of them. That chart tells me that outside of the extremes, there is not really a whole lot of difference among most makes.
