Happy Selfish Christmas: 21 Ayn Rand Holiday Cards

David Akadjian, at Daily Kos, envisions the type of Christmas cards that Ayn Rand might have sent, using quotes from the Ayn Rand archive. Here is a brief sample:

The people at the Ayn Rand Archive are predictably, not happy with this use of Rand quotes.

1. Not happy?

The wise pronouncements of their God are disseminated. And this gives me an excellent idea for holiday cards. Thanks.

2. And... Off to the greatest.

I can see the followers of John Calvin actually sending these cards.

3. Excellent!

Greetings to send to my right wing friends and family. Only a few left, maybe this will clear the field.

8. So many cute aphorisms. It's a wonder she found time to cash her (illegal) Social Security checks.

Textbook sociopath.

9. I actually agree with...

Capitalism/Altruism one. But I don't think I value the one she did.

20. Rand's definition fo Altruism

does not make any distinction between selfishness and moral self-interest. Her argument is a strawman. James Rachels points this out in his book Elements of Moral Philosophy.

Her writing is philosophically unsophisticated to say the least. This fact explains why she is loved by those with immature intellects like Paul Ryan, Rand Paul, Scott Walker, et. al.

10. One Sick Lady

She even has expressed admiration for rapists and killers. That this psycho is an inspiration to so many on the right tells you all you need to know, they are cold and heartless too.

The way we should live is simple....do unto others as you would have them do unto you, live and let live. Rand and her sick followers think selfishness is virtue, it is demented.

12. Preferably one where's he's cashing his Social Security checks - at the ripe old age of 16.

Yes, it was legal (a survivor's benefit from when his father passed). But I doubt it would pass muster with his goddess.

23. Ah, yes. The enterprising 'Annie O'Connor'.

The 'Irish' gal with a Russian accent and Nazi mentality.

Paul Ryan's idea of a good melting pot, no doubt.

15. The mere mention of her name...

... makes my blood boil. Rand was one of the vilest people ever to befoul this planet. She was a talentless hack writer who only found fame because she praised the most obscenely malevolent aspects of rapacious capitalism at the height of the cold war, so naturally, Republicans adored her.

Anyone who still expresses admiration for her has the moral compass of a rabid hyena.

16. Perfect for RW Christian friends

Ayn Rand was anti-Christian. Why the RW Christians accept Randites? They need to be confronted with this.

Her hatred of humans is very obvious, as is her lust for money and power.

Cry me a river. Those cards must be effective. Struck a chord, eh?
