Democratic activists need to know direction the Party is going?

And we probably won't know until they come back from vacation?

Are they going to approve the Republican Supreme Court nominees ?

Are they going to approve all of Trump's Cabinet picks?

Are they going to oppose and define each of his nominees?

Are we simply wasting our time until we find out which direction the Party is going?

When we get defeated in elections, our elected officials creep back in their holes and wait to see what happens. Some will show some spine this time, since it's becoming clear that conciliation amounts to suicide. It won't take long to figure out who has a spine and who just hopes to ride out the storm and get reelected. I expect to see some life from some of the progressives in the northern states. The national party organization looks pretty discouraging, and they won't let go of the neoliberal experiment just yet. A progressive revolution is bubbling beneath the surface, but it's not a certainty, maybe not even a good possibility.

Democratic activists need to tell the party which direction it is going, not the other way around. That's been our basic problem.

And TELL them what we want them to do. If they get back from their break or to their first session of Congress and there are tens of thousands of letters telling them the main issues we want them to fight for it will make a difference.

We should not assume that they are smart enough to figure it out or that they will look at polls to find out what the American people want. We should give them detailed lists of the issues important to us and how we want them to fight for those issues.

We should also let them know how we have each supported our Democratic candidates and our chosen issues in the past, whether through donations, through volunteering or through activism. If they know we will help them campaign in return for them supporting our issues they are more likely to work for us.
