In 2007, TV preacher Paula White got investigated by the U.S. Senate for her shady fundraising practices.
Ten years later, she will pray at Trumps inauguration.Yes, really.
White is a televangelist with a huge audience and a knack for stirring controversy. Shes been a Trump booster for years, and she helped organize a summit for him in the early days of his presidential campaign with other televangelists. Her presence at the inauguration is a very strong indicator that Trumps White House will be a safe space for the Christians right most controversial characters.
Think of Paula Whites ministry as the church version of Trump University. She preaches the prosperity gospel, an approach to Christianity that is, shall we say, unorthodox. Prosperity gospel preachers teach that God wants people to be rich, and that he makes them wealthy as a sign of his blessing and favor; the richer you are, the more God loves you.
Because, you know, Jesus wore wingtips and a Rolex.
These preachers also teach that the way to become wealthy isyou guessed it!by giving them money. If you make a so-called seed offeringand the bigger the betterthen preachers like White say the Lord will repay your generosity with bounteous riches.

(31,388 posts)Here's what Jesus had to say about rich men:
Then Jesus said to His disciples, Truly I tell you, it is difficult for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. 25When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished and asked, Who then can be saved?
Matthew 19:23-24
AND
Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed. (NASB) 1 Timothy 6:17-19

(22 posts)There are many amazing things in this world. One of the most astonishing is that many people still appear to believe in talking snakes and asses, global floods, virgins magically impregnated, invisible undetectable gods up in the sky, men living inside fish, eternal paradise/heaven and dead guys waking up after 3 days.
But then people who substitute faith for thinking have little or no intellectual horsepower anyway.
