President-elect Trump was asked by reporters to provide details of his plan for veterans health care, and he and his senior advisors provided nothing, which means that the next commander in chief lied to veterans thousands of times on the campaign trail when he promised that he would fix health care for our veterans. The New York Times reported:
Mr. Trump met with several executives of private hospital systems at his Mar-a-Lago estate on Wednesday. After the meeting, Mr. Trump called out to reporters, saying he wanted to describe his ideas for changes to the Department of Veterans Affairs, but then quickly directed one of his senior aides to describe the proposals under consideration.
The official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, provided no details about how the plans would work, how much they would cost, or the possibility of unintended consequences from privatizing part of the V.A.s sprawling medical system.
The writing was clearly placed on the wall by Trump refusing to discuss his plan after meeting with executives from private hospital systems. - PoliticusUSA
Like clockwork as we all predicted, here come the privatization leeches. Look out Social Security and Medicare. You're next.

(16,858 posts)The GOP couldn't care less about "veterans affairs". They only care about veterans when they serve as pretty campaign props. The GOP has repeatedly voted against healthcare for veterans, time and time again, even when no ship or plane project is to large or War too small for them. This move should come as no surprise to any citizen, much less veteran. They have intentionally underfunded the VA for decades, then they stand back when the underfunded system fails vets and indignantly proclaim "See, this govt program is broken. We told you govt was unable to perform this function". And then they turn around, after sabatoging the system, and hand those resources over to their corporate puppet masters. I'm fucking sick of these bastards. You hate govt and yet you have no problem taking your annual salary and all the benefits from it. You actively strive to limit the good govt can provide to its citizens, while gleefully using govt resources to benefit those that need it least. We truly are living in some Ayn Rand utopia now, and it's frightening and infuriating.

(8,964 posts)Privatizing the prison system has been a colossal failure wherever it has been attempted, yet flipping the VA over to for-profit interests is now being portrayed as being a step in the right direction. Adding a profit motive invariably adds costs but not necessarily efficiency. It appears that the "Repeal and replace Obamacare" model is growing legs for stepping into other programs, and those legs are of a reptilian nature.

(6,829 posts)Medieval should be added to that term. Lobbying for laws that criminalize everything even more and keeping people in cages for years for something most people don't get caught for, and the stigma of getting out broke and permanently unemployed. And hiring unskilled mean ass corrupt staff and chintz-ing on health care and fuck rehabilitation, that's for socialist scum.
America having the largest prison population on the planet, including the most bad ass authoritarian police state dictatorships is a source of shame for me. Incomprehensible we are so mean to our own brothers. Back when America was great we believed in rehabilitation and second chances. Now we ruin lives of those barely entering adulthood. The PTB's want us docile and ignorant and accepting that some religions and minorities just need the concentration camp treatment, for the good of us remaining white people.

(823 posts)but many vets are republican and would have voted against their own interests no matter what. Btw, this vet could not be happier with that care I have received by the VA over the last few years. The VA could become more efficient and effective but the republican party has consistently dragged its feet in an effort to slow the progress of VA modernization in order to make it easier to destroy and privatize. Self fulfilling sabotage.

(28,941 posts)That vulgarian trashed a Gold Star family, post trauma combat victims, servicewomen, a former POW and thinks he's smarter than flags. Sweet suffering Curt LeMay, troops, answer the f*ckin' clue burners. That's a packed tight duffel bag of contempt.

(6,409 posts)We piled on, joining the Republicans in their eternal war on the VA. We could have used the VA crisis to point out the effects of hostile budget cuts, but it was easier to kick them when they were down. Ah, well. Kudos to the few Democrats who did point out that VA health care is far better now than it used to be.

(790 posts)funding which resulted in hiring freezes on healthcare providers, and very few facility expansions or new facilities being built. So while the crap that went on with the Phoenix VA was inexcusable, the underlying reason for the extreme backlog at *every* VA was just not a topic of discussion. The VA may have its problems, but the reason the GOPers hate it is precisely because of how good the care being provided my socialized medicine actually is. That VA healthcare is not driven by profit is just an anathema to them. But the strategy of underfunding, defunding federal agencies or federally subsidized programs and then pouncing as soon as that causes any problems -- that is a tried and true GOP strategy. Amtrak, post office, head start...... add to the list as you will.

(46,039 posts)Are any of the idiots who voted for him going to notice things like this, or are they just going to continue to shout "lock her up"? Are they even going to notice he's not doing anything to lock her up?

(61,695 posts)I hate that he's breaking promises left and right, because on some things, he promised to do the right thing, even if he had no clue about how to get it done. Now he's revealing how deceptive he was and is, formulating drastic, unwanted changes with people who stand to benefit from those changes, before he's ever sworn in. He's a Deplorable.
