People, if you are not watching Rachel's history lesson RIGHT EFFING NOW, you are missing out

My gods. If you missed it from the beginning, it is absolutely worth watching 3 hours from now, and if that is too late for you, record it.

...by Stalin specifically to control tourists at every moment; all the specially made hotel rooms for prominent, wealthy, or politically connected visitors, furnished with every convenience in the way of recording devices, and all staff including janitors on the KGB payroll.

Etcetera. Hmmmmmm.

9. It's just Rachel Maddow's MSNBC news show tonight. She tends to spend the first 15 or 20 minutes....

....going into deep background on some topic of interest. Sometimes she drives me crazy by repeating herself a lot before getting to the point, but tonight she was right on point the whole time and it really was fascinating; hopefully especially for those who did not attain adulthood during the Cold War.

Think the 5 W's of Journalism.
Who
What
Where
When
Why
and sometimes How

My TV time and willing attention to media is limited right now because I don't want to see Trump and hear bullshit.
So give us real details please.

...as is sometimes the case at DU. Hence the "effing"-- and I could not both write about it and post it in a timely manner.

I wasn't aware of the previous sex tape incident that Rachel covered:

Before becoming president, Mr. Putin played a prominent role in a particularly successful kompromat operation. As head of the F.S.B. in 1997, he won the trust of President Boris Yeltsin by helping destroy the career of Russia’s prosecutor general, Yury Skuratov. After starting an investigation into Kremlin corruption, the prosecutor was disgraced on national television by the broadcast of a video that showed a man who looked like him in bed with two young women.

Makes me wonder if 3 years later Putin may have had a kompromat tape on Yeltsin himself leading to this:

Boris N. Yeltsin shocked his nation and the world today, announcing his resignation as president six months before the end of his term and handing over power to his favored successor, Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin.
