George Lakoff - framing Trump

I like Lakoff's work but I don't agree with him 100%. Like many successful scholars, he has a tendency to see his theory as answering all questions and he tends to over-generalize. That being said, I think he has some important insights into how to use language which the Left has been slow in adopting.

https://georgelakoff.com/2016/11/22/a-minority-president-why-the-polls-failed-and-what-the-majority-can-do/

"There are certain things that strict fathers cannot be: A Loser, Corrupt, and especially not a Betrayer of Trust.

Trump lost the popular vote. To the American majority, he is a Loser, a minority president. It needs to be said and repeated.

Above all, Trump is a Betrayer of Trust. He is acting like a dictator, and is even supporting Putin’s anti-American policies."

In light of this, I made this image my FB cover and I will use it or one of my other descriptions in my signature line every time I refer to him:

Explains why one theory for the rise of Hitler was that the German people had a very patriarchal family structure.

Trump Betrays us and real men don't betray trust. In fact, we can extrapolate the frame that real Strict Fathers don't brook corruption to the entire GOP, which is the epitome of a culture of corruption.

Otherwise, we concede to the rethugs.

I ket wanting to hear how Hillary could help ME, not her resume or why Donnie is bad. I still voted for her but that's one thing I didn't like about the campaign.

I felt that her ads were too narrowly focused on those two things.

Nevertheless, she won the popular vote but the EC means that Democrats have to get super majorities to win anything.

Repeat, repeat, repeat. It has to be pile-driven in. Unrelentingly. He must never be able to escape this uncomfortable and inconvenient FACT.

we need to use language which pushes the right buttons in his supporters. They need to feel like he doesn't represent their values (no matter how f**ked up we think their values are)
