‘They’ll pull the trigger’: Robert Reich explains how the GOP is playing Trump till they can dump him

TOM BOGGIONI
21 JAN 2017 AT 11:20 ET

Writing on Facebook, former Labor Secretary Robert Reich relayed a conversation with a former GOP member of Congress who claims current members of the House are playing along with President Donald Trump for now but will dump him at the first possible moment.

According to Reich, he recently had breakfast with a Republican friend who claimed he held his fire over his misgivings about Trump during the election, saying, “You kidding? I was surrounded by Trump voters. I’d have been shot.”

That was when the conversation took an interesting turn when Reich asked his friend what the GOP will do now that Trump is president.

“They’ll play along for a while,” the unidentified friend said. “They’ll get as much as they want – tax cuts galore, deregulation, military buildup, slash all those poverty programs, and then get to work on Social Security and Medicare – and blame him. And he’s such a fool he’ll want to take credit for everything.”

After all while Trump can ask for something like a new law or a reduced spending bill its ultimately in Congresses hands (in this case its entirely the Republicans hands since they control both Houses) and they can even override a President so ya I think they will go after Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and try to shift the blame for their decisions to Trump and if he resists they will just impeach him and install their backup plan which is Pence.
If Trump wants to survive in the whitehouse his best bet is to pull his head out of ass, divest his assets into a blind trust and apologize to the many people he has mocked, insulted, threatened, cheated and ridiculed and then ally with the Democrats otherwise hes going to be blamed for everything the Republicans do.

*President Trump’s Inaugural Address on Friday was a scalding repudiation of the Washington establishment. The question left hanging after this angry jeremiad: How will the new commander in chief be able to work with these people to govern the country?

Uncompromising in tone and entirely in keeping with his insurgent campaign, Mr. Trump dispensed with appeals to unity or attempts to build bridges to his opponents. He tarred the nation’s political class, arrayed behind him on the West Front of the Capitol, as faithless and corrupt.

“Their victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs,” he said. “And while they celebrated in our nation’s capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.”

“That all changes,” a grim-faced Mr. Trump declared, “starting right here, and right now.”'>>>

And he’s such a fool he’ll want to take credit for everything."

Can someone tell me what the Republicans' ultimate aim is? Is it really that they just don't want to pay taxes, so they're willing to cut social welfare programs (or almost everything except military spending) to the bone? Or do they really believe private industry would take care of people better than government? I'd think if the latter were true the advanced Western countries would already have such a system in place. However, the opposite (a robust social welfare system) is what's true in much of the world.

The Christian Right can't get one of their own elected, so they piggyback on Trump. It just shows how mean-spirited, racist, hypocritical and greedy they are that they cynically make this alliance just so they can get their policies enacted. They know he's vulnerable, they won't take the heat when he fails and they'll get as much theocracy imposed as they can until they get voted out.

It's important to not just focus on Trump, you have to look at groups like the Heritage Foundation and all of the nutty Dominionists and other religious fanatics who are trying to run the country.

They have been trying to undo Medicare, SS and Medicaid for decades. Now they think they have a plan to do it and blame it on drumpf. Unfortunately for them, they will propose the law and vote yes on it and they will be blamed. Trying to pawn it off on drumpf, while a good ploy, won't work for them if they propose and vote yes on the law and Ryan's had this in his budget proposals forever. It won't work, they will be blamed, as they should be.
