In addition, they are probably stupid authoritarian assholes.

(16,987 posts)those in the trenches don't always hear what's happening that could change their "working orders."
Then again, maybe they're waiting for their marching orders in the 3AM tweet from Der Drumpf!!

(12,344 posts)Probably is. This court order came late on Saturday, which means management and the attorneys have to come back to work, review it and issue new orders.

(5,191 posts)They say Trump is modeling Andrew Jackson's presidency. Jackson moved the Cherokee Indians west of the Mississippi River even though John Marshall's Supreme said they could stay on their land.
Time to start impeachment proceedings!

(16,987 posts)Who remembers the "last" Saturday Night Massacre?
When Nixon ("I am not a crook" wanted the independent prosecutor Archibald Cox fired (guess he was "too independent" for Nixon's liking) and AG Elliot Richardson and Asst. AG William Ruckelshaus would NOT fire him. He finally got Robert Bork (google "getting borked!" to do the dirty and all of that pretty much put down the red carpet for Nixon's "bye-bye" wave from the White House lawn.
The way this weekend is going, I get a feeling that it could be the same thing all over again, only Der Drumpf would probably FLIP US OFF as he's getting has nasty, rotten ASS kicked out of town!
OK, well, at least, here's hoping!!!!
And there was NO violence (thank God - and here's hoping it remains that way).

(46,166 posts)I remember those days. But these Republicans seem like a pack of dummies and an even more corrupt breed. I don't think they have the brains to figure out what to do. Where is the statesman among them?
They've spent the last years spending most weeks away from D.C. They've coasted on their pomposity and skated through their hypocrisy opposing Obama. What have they actually had to accomplish? We now know that they never even tried to come up with an ACA replacement these past seven years.
They're dipshits of the highest order who got away with things like Chaffetz using a private email server while leading his charge against Clinton for hers. Yet, they still have all the real power.
I don't think they have a clue about what to do. And because they have their thumbs up their collective ass I'm afraid that people will die. Peaceful protests will turn ugly and innocent people will die.
This is a night where good news got trashed almost immediately when we learned that Border Control isn't obeying the judge's order.
I pray that some damn body can do what you propose. But I can't think of a single Republican who has the authority to get it started. Can you?
MyOwnPeace
(16,987 posts)you called me on that one!
Yes, Elliot Richardson and William Ruckelshaus were Republican appointments, and yes, they had the integrity to step down rather than do the wrong thing. So, ROBERT BORK did it for them - yes, THAT Robert Bork - says all you need to know about him (but there's more - thank God he never got onto the Supreme Court!).
And, yes, you shot a cannon ball through my balloon of hope - counting on integrity to step up in the current balance of leadership. Your question: "a single Republican who has the authority" - GAWD, name a single Republican who has the INTEGRITY to step up and make things right!
But - we've gotta' keep up the fight!

(46,166 posts)And I'm not suggesting that we give up. Not at all. I'm just terrified of what I see as the inevitable. My era is the Vietnam War protests. Kent State is coming to mind tonight. We're heading for a crisis. It feels like some slow-mo dream where you can't control things and you know disaster is around the corner. You can't see around that corner, you know it's danger but you keep going.
MyOwnPeace
(16,987 posts)I was not questioning your comment - it was a "call to reality!"
We must be of the same vintage - my high school friend shot the pics at Kent State that made the covers of newspapers and magazines (and got him a Pulitzer prize).
I agree with your concern - as a matter of fact I think the "anger" factor is higher now than it was between the pro & cons of the Vietnam era. We had "leadership" encouraging "division" - Nixon's "secret" plan for peace - Agnew's "nattering nabobs of negativism" - Chicago convention riots - and the conflicting concerns for the war effort and equal rights.
But now - well, we've got HIM - and the Tea Party that built the foundation - and a large majority of states that are also "Repug" controlled, thanks to the absurd redistricting/gerrymandering that took place to allow more control to flow to those designing the districts.
And, as you called out earlier, a terrible lack of leadership from the majority party that shows any ethical concern for what's best for ALL OF THE UNITED STATES. Mitch, Paul, and company have spent the past 8 years fighting anything that would lead to any progress or success for us - and now we have to count on them for help?
GOD help us all!!!!

(46,166 posts)It's the Shock Doctrine on steroids. But I wouldn't dream of giving up, either.
Stay safe.
