His mother died just one day after being told she couldn't return to the United States.
Mike Hager fled Iraq with his family during the Gulf War, returned during the Iraq war and worked alongside United States Marines and Army forces. He now owns a business in Metro Detroit and said his mom would still be alive today if President Donald Trump had not instituted his travel ban on Muslim countries.
Hager said he was returning home with his family that included his sick mom. They were returning home to the United States where his mother has lived since 1995. As they were waiting in line at the airport in Iraq on Friday, he was told that he could pass through because he was a U.S. citizen. But his family members - including his mom - weren't allowed, despite holding green cards.
"They destroyed us. I went with my family, I came back by myself. They destroyed our family," Hager said.

(21,258 posts)The black ops guy and a 11 year old in the Middle East and now this woman.
I bet before his first term many Americans will die protesting him if he instills martial law and has congress crCk down on protests. Do you think he is mad he can't have those rallies that gave him adoring crowds will now have protesters outnumbering his supporters?

(11,022 posts)Many women and children. Mind you, this was a boots on the ground raid, not a drone strike. It took a lot of effort to kill that many people.
The child's mother, Anwar al-Awlaki's widow, survived the raid with a minor wound, according to Nasser al-Awlaki. However, Anwar al-Awlaki's brother-in-law was killed in the raid. The death toll varies according to the sourcing, with the Pentagon saying 14 militants died, along with "numerous" civilians. Nasser al-Awlaki said Yemenis were circulating a body count of combatants and civilians as high as 59.

(82,849 posts)I've been reading military accounts of body counts since Vietnam, and have learned to be skeptical of such over the last 49 years or so. It's unclear to me how the military has determined that 14 of they people they killed are militants, and at least they acknowledge that they also killed "numerous" civilians.
This is certainly not a problem that just now happened because of President Trump. But he is obviously continuing the same policies that gave rise to groups like Al Qaeda and Islamic State. If the total dead from the raid is indeed 59, that's better than a 3-1 ratio of "innocent" dead to "militant" dead. When we consider how jacked out of shape certain people still are over the San Bernardino shootings, it's a wonder to me that we here in the United States can't possibly fathom how all this "collateral damage" might make some people in other countries kind of mad at us.
Evidently, America lost some of its greatness because we weren't killing enough non-combatants in other countries. But President Trump is rectifying that!

(1,077 posts)Their (dRump and company) lack of forsight/planning is horrendous. He did not have to do this EO. Their suppositions are wrong. Mr Hager has gone into harms way with the US military. You do not turn on him. The dRump yoyos are trying to make points at the cost of ordinary family lives.
I am a loyal American opposition. There is a Russian connection out there.

I saw this shit coming while Shrub was in office. I urged my husband and my sister's husband to apply for citizenship then. They did and I'm so glad. They are from England and Canada, so they would probably be all right in any case, but still...
