on a variety of issues. Doubt he'd even be the swing Justice that Kennedy is. I say we give the Repukes the same courtesy they gave Garland. There are risks either way, but better to take the fighting side.

He is to the right of Scalia; only Thomas is more conservative than this dude.

like Scalia, one of the most conservative justices ever. I guess we may have
a difference of opinion as to what middle right is. From what I have read, he
will adjudicate along the lines of the other four right leaning justices.

We defend our Republic in every battle, whatever the cost may be. We fight in the Congress, we fight in the Courts, we fight in the state houses, we fight in local council chambers, we fight in the streets and if necessary the hills and the fields; we shall never surrender.

Ten Democratic Senators are up for re-election next year in states that Trump won. Piss off the voters in that state and give the R's a filibuster-proof majority. THAT may be the cost of being obstructionist.

Replacing one conservative justice with another conservative does not change the balance of the court at all. This is one appointment that we can afford to lose.

all he has to do is wait until they recess, then appoint anyone he wants - as a recess appointment. The repukes prevented that move by President Obama by staying in 'pro-forma' session with one member present, technically avoiding having an actual 'recess', over several sessions. Since the bastards are in charge of everything now, they will be able to avoid staying in session, and let Don the Con make whatever recess appointments he wants.

Thus it would only be a last ditch option.
