Trump republicanism in action. Hatch pushes nominees through committee on republican votes ALONE

Last edited Wed Feb 1, 2017, 12:59 PM - Edit history (2)

The Senate Finance Committee advanced a pair of Trump’s nominees with only Republican members present — Steven Mnuchin to head the Treasury Department, and Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) as secretary of Health and Human Services.

By unanimous consent, the Republicans gathered in the hearing room agreed to change the committee’s standing rules, which normally require at least one member of each party to be in attendance for committee work to proceed.

“It’s just another way of roughing up the president’s nominees,” said committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah). “They have been treated fairly. We have not been treated fairly.”

Republicans made the unusual move after Democrats refused to attend a vote on the nominees for two days running, arguing the pair had made misleading statements to lawmakers that needed to be rectified.

The nominees now head to the Senate floor, as partisan tensions over filling out Trump’s White House continued to intensify.

Per Rule V, suspension of the rules would have required a 1 day, advanced notice in writing. I don't recall seeing anything about this being done. Was the suspension of the Rules, then, not done legally?

illegitimate, unvetted DOTUS picks illegitimate and lacking any credibility on anything they do.

It'll take a while, but the majority of White Americans who voted for this clusterf**k will finally see what they've done, and change it. Happened under G.W., remember? It was so bad that many switched their registrations to 'I'. Duhbya ultimately left office with a 25% approval rating and made it possible for a Black Democratic candidate to win the presidency.

Shaming works.

Vote numbers incessantly, attack republican names to them. I remember a case in Colorado where a republican US House Member made a moral blunder that should have destroyed him. When confronted, he just repeated one canned answer to every question like a parrot, it was hilarious, but that same person would go on to take a US Senate seat that was held by a Democrat, because the Democrat chose not to attack that republican for his clear miscues.
