The Senate Finance Committee advanced a pair of Trumps nominees with only Republican members present Steven Mnuchin to head the Treasury Department, and Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) as secretary of Health and Human Services.
By unanimous consent, the Republicans gathered in the hearing room agreed to change the committees standing rules, which normally require at least one member of each party to be in attendance for committee work to proceed.
Its just another way of roughing up the presidents nominees, said committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah). They have been treated fairly. We have not been treated fairly.
Republicans made the unusual move after Democrats refused to attend a vote on the nominees for two days running, arguing the pair had made misleading statements to lawmakers that needed to be rectified.
The nominees now head to the Senate floor, as partisan tensions over filling out Trumps White House continued to intensify.

(55,894 posts)Per Rule V, suspension of the rules would have required a 1 day, advanced notice in writing. I don't recall seeing anything about this being done. Was the suspension of the Rules, then, not done legally?

It'll take a while, but the majority of White Americans who voted for this clusterf**k will finally see what they've done, and change it. Happened under G.W., remember? It was so bad that many switched their registrations to 'I'. Duhbya ultimately left office with a 25% approval rating and made it possible for a Black Democratic candidate to win the presidency.
Shaming works.

(24,412 posts)and you're attacking Democrats because they haven't done............what? How do you assume that they aren't doing anything.......or planning to do something (if they can do anything at all).

(31,261 posts)Vote numbers incessantly, attack republican names to them. I remember a case in Colorado where a republican US House Member made a moral blunder that should have destroyed him. When confronted, he just repeated one canned answer to every question like a parrot, it was hilarious, but that same person would go on to take a US Senate seat that was held by a Democrat, because the Democrat chose not to attack that republican for his clear miscues.
