(1,076 posts)The guardsman are doing as ordered. The Governor needs to go. Anyone complicit in the Governor's decision needs to go, too.
There is nothing but GREED involved. We need someone to "run the money changers out of the temple".
Greed = Capitalism. This is another example of greed getting in the way of treating people with honor and respect.
I'm a loyal American in opposition. Let's not forget the russian connection. The russians just earned a half billion dollars with the confirmation of the new SoS. How's that for jackpot in helping to win the election for dRumpf and the rethugs.
Finally, "power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely."

(8,699 posts)That argument didn't work for concentration camp staff and it doesn't work here.
They are capable of resistance and defying an unlawful order against the use of military force on US citizens.
This should be a wake-up call for everyone!
If they will do it here they will do it everywhere!

(4,826 posts)and crying. Crying for what my state (which I just returned to a year ago) has become. Crying at the greed, at the environmental destruction, at the racism. Forget "North Dakota nice." It's all bullshit now. I know, I live here and everyone has turned into a greedy, uber-Christian asshole. We are trying to leave.

(10,271 posts)I'm sad, too. I haven't been back in a few years, but even then the beginnings of a whole slew of New-industry related problems were starting to surface. The oil money made a lot of them dumber than I seem to remember, and when it collapses (and it will, cause that stuffs not worth taking out of the ground at less than a hundred bucks a barrel) they're going to be left with a lot of very expensive problems that have not been budgeted for, that don't have easy solutions, and that only a small few saw coming.

(10,271 posts)Most of the oil and gas industry has been set up in other half of the state, west of Devils Lake. I'm pretty sure the river in the song you linked, however, is the Texas Red River, but a lot of people make that error. It's ok, we forgive you lol

(4,438 posts)How wrong I was. And to think they don't even care about the original Americans and their drinking water and those living 17 miles downstream. There are already 3,000 cities with worse levels of lead in their water than Flint. Are these robots so stupid to forget that their families have to live on this planet too. They should be refusing to follow the order and stand with the brave soldiers who stood against the pipeline on this sacred and vital land and water last month. They are the true heroes along with the peaceful resistance participants. Boo to loser Drumpf and cabinet of misfits. You will have to answer to a higher power for this.

(53,339 posts)Arrests as police move on 'Last Child' camp, set up across from larger camp near Standing Rock
The Associated Press Posted: Feb 01, 2017 6:03 PM ET| Last Updated: Feb 01, 2017 6:03 PM ET
Law enforcement have evicted about 40 Dakota Access pipeline opponents from a camp the demonstrators set up on higher ground near their flood-prone main camp in southern North Dakota.
The Morton County Sheriff's Office says the camp, near the Standing Rock Sioux reservation, was on private property owned by the pipeline developer. But in Facebook posts, demonstrators described what they called the "Last Child" camp as a "peaceful assembly."
Sheriff's spokesman Rob Keller says there were two initial arrests and no reports of injuries. Live-streaming video on Facebook shows several officers in riot gear on the scene.
The main camp once housed thousands but is now down to about 300 people. The tribe has told those in camp to leave, and the camp is being cleaned up in advance of spring flooding season.

(22,069 posts)So will there be any press at all when oil leaks into the water supply and starts killing people? The U.S. government pledged to protect Natives in treaties, not kill more of them. The National Guard, "Just following orders", has been the main excuse for genocide thru history.
